RitaWeeda, You can set Firefox not to automatically install updates. Current versions ... Options \ General, scroll down to Firefox Updates section and select "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" It may be under a different menu structure if you're on an older version. It may still advise that an update is available but won't automatically install it. You can check manually check for updates by clicking on Help / About Firefox. It will check from there if any updates are available, advise you accordingly, and offer to fetch and install. I've been using Firefox since the 0.xx versions.

Are you running Avast antivirus? If so, the advisory is related to it. I got that advisory after an update a couple years ago. Fixing it requires removing a Registry key. Uninstalling Avast does not remove the key. Do so at your own risk if you aren't familiar with Registry editing procedures ... there is no undo if you make a mistake (unless you know how to export/save a copy of the key being deleted). Depends on the details of what's happening but an out-of-date security certificate may not be the fault of the browser. The bank's IT dept or the tech people who manage the online banking server buys an SSL certificate from a CA (Certificate Authority) and installs it on said server, and are responsible for renewing it when it expires. The server's certificate may have coincidentally expired when you updated Firefox. That being said, there have been cases of an outdated certificate authority being "on file" in the browser, or even in the (presumably Windows) OS. Does the problem occur with other browsers on the same computer, or with any browser on other computers? Perhaps ask the bank for their input on the situation. You didn't provide the URL for your bank access so others can check if they get the warning at the log-in page. You can view certificates on-file in Firefox via Tools / Options / Privacy & Security / Certificates / View Certificates / Authorities. Select one in the list and double-click it or click View to examine the details.

Well, I tried to use the old user id and password but it would not display anything but a page with a create account button. I entered responses to the create account questions and I must have typoed something but it did not let me complete the process. When I finally was able to get past the error, it sent a code to my email address and after I entered it back, it now wants me to login elsewhere to "sync". Where did that come from??? All I needed was access to the support forum.... sigh... Richard, why would Firefox be deleting the cookies? I have not requested that on purpose but, you never know what will an upgrade change. Ok, I looked and found that there is a check mark saying to delete all cookies when some permanent private browsing mode blah blah is set. It will not let me uncheck it. No idea what that mode is talking about but it seems related to the problem.... Any idea how to change this "mode"? The section titled "logins and passwords", the first line has no check mark beside "ask to save logins..." but the ones underneath have check marks. I cannot override them when I try to uncheck.
