Firefox and Explorer Hijacked. OS=W8.1
Comments (27)Joe, I'm not saying this would or would not be useful, I just found it with a search... http://www.bbcode-to-html.com/ Personally though, just because I like to do things the difficult way I'd probably throw copies of all the text files containing the bbcode into a folder and attempt to develop a script to convert them all in one go. I'm not saying I could do it, but I'd likely try. For instance, this rough beginning using "sed" works on the bbcode you posted above. It's missing a bunch of tags, even the regular [URL] one, but maybe it wouldn't be that difficult to extend. Or maybe it would, I don't really know. sed -e 's/\[b\]/\<strong\>/gi' \ -e 's/\[/b\]/\</strong\>/gi' \ -e 's/\[u\]/\<u\>/gi' \ -e 's/\[/u\]/\</u\>/gi' \ -e 's/\[url=\([^]]*\)\]/\<a href="\1"\>/gi' \ -e 's/\[/url\]/\</a\>/gi' \ -e 's/\[img\]/\<img src\="/gi' \ -e 's/\[/img\]/"\>/gi' Running the bbcode you posted above through that script yields this HTML: Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx No installation required. Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program. Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt file to desktop You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type: Upload the file(s) here: http://www.sendspace.com/ Click on Browse button and navigate to the file you want to upload. Click on Upload button. Click on FIRST Copy Link button and paste the link in your next reply. Which when posted here gives: Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx No installation required. The bad thing is, I don't know "regular expressions", although I wouldn't mind learning. Actually, I did learn a wee bit just now. Thanks. :) Edit: line-spacing This post was edited by chuggerguy on Fri, Jan 24, 14 at 16:46...See MoreWarning about Foxit Reader software update
Comments (3)I have been using the PDF reader built into Firefox for some time now. No complaints with it. Regarding your unwanted crapware I have been using the custom install for some time after realising some sites were doing exactly what Foxit has been up to. It is about money of course, they get a fee for all those unwanted installs, plus many of those probably do not get removed once the user has made the discovery. For those who may fear using the custom install method it is very simple, you check off all you need and leave out what is not wanted....See MoreFirefox Security Update
Comments (31)To those of you who are uninstalling NoScript, because you are having a problem with GardenWeb, or don't like having to take the time to click the NoScript icon and temporarily allow a script to run, I would strongly encourage you to rethink your decision. It is most likely a poorly written or badly written script on GardenWeb that is causing the problem, not NoScript, and when you remove NoScript, you are greatly endangering your computer. A large number of websites are infected with one or another form of malware. That may be in the form of saving "cookies", running some type of scripting to collect information about you, or an outright exploit, clickjacking, etc, using scripts, and these put your computer at great risk. Most of the time, what NoScript blocks is not necessary for you to be able to enjoy and use a website. Scripts can make the Web an enjoyable place to visit, but they can be used in many harmful and malicious ways as well. You want to run only the "good" scripts, and stay away from the bad. That is what NoScript allows you to do. I know it takes some time and effort to learn to use NoScript, but in the end, it is well worth the effort to avoid having your computer infected with some very nasty visitors. If more people used NoScript, there would be a lot less people showing up here and other computer help forms needing help to get their computers back from the "bad guys"....See MoreAOL Emails problems with Firefox - 2 problems
Comments (17)Terry - that was great - thanks. It completely did what I wanted to achieve. I can easily see if I've gotten new email on my other account without switching software, etc Now a new problem occurred yesterday - before I made those changes - and I have no idea what I may have done to cause it. probably something I did in experimenting with all these different email issues. I had my firefox set up to send links in emails (from my AOL address). But now I'm trying to send my mother a link (for the emergency microsoft update from 2 days ago) - and when I'm in Firefox (and the computer forum thread is open - or any web page is open) - and I go to File - then click send link - it brings up an email form (with my screen name in AOL as the sender - so that party's working) - but a whole mishigosh of info (the link info, perhaps) appears in the space where I should be entering the email address I'm sending it to. I have no idea why that is happening. If I cut and paste that info into the body of the email - and send it to myself to test it - it doesn't appear to be a link to get me to the webpage I want). Seems to me that the webpage link should be referred to in the subject line - and supplied in the body of the email - not some mess of information occuring in the send to line. I tried going to FF tools - applications- and mail to . I have several options to choose from - use AOL software (this appears twice - once with the AOL triangle with "default" in parentheses and once with what looks like a mail page form), and once it says use AOL mail. I think I've tried all three and it still doesn't work. And before I started trying to change my email settings this week, I think there was only 1 or 2 AOL options for mail application in Firefox. Okay - so now I checked all three. On use AOL mail, it gives me the gibberish (somehow related to the webpage I'm trying to send a link for) in the to: line. If I choose use AOL software (default) - with the mail form logo - it goes to AOL software - sets up the email correctly with the information about the link in the subject line - and the to: field blank for me to fill in the recipient. But it wants me to sign on or the send button is faded and I can't click it. If I choose use AOL software (with the AOL logo - not the email logo), it takes me to the AOL software page and says this file may not be supported by AOL. AOL will try to send it as a text file (and if I choose to try, it will tell me the file is too big). So I do I email somebody links? Thanks. Lynn....See Moredadoes
