Readinglady I have 2 canning books. My canning books are from 1972 (Complete Guide to Home Canning by US Dept of Ag.)and from 1979 (Ball Blue Book) see page 23 where it claims even the low-acid tomatoes, unless overripe, were safe to WB. Neither one mentions acidifying tomatoes. You would think the BBB would mention it, yet doesn't. These, plus the Mirro booklet (bought canner in 1979 or 1980) were the only books my ex-husband and I went by for canning all those years. I suppose we didn't get sick because we always simmered the sauce we made back then. Any botulism was inactivated. I don't know, but some of those jars were canned with low-acid stuff along with tomatoes. He liked peppers, mushrooms and onions in the sauce. No one realized the danger. But he canned them and I honestly can't remember if he WB them or PC them. It was over 20 years ago. The toms I did were WB. I do plan to add lemon juice since I cannot find citric acid anywhere including in the Drug Stores. Dave We don't have Farm & Fleet here. The other stores you mention didn't have the BBB. I had to have ACE Hardware order me the Presto canner. I had to order the tomato squeezer and BBB online. I'm only 6 miles from a large modern town and about 14 from a good size rapidly growing city so have access to several of each store and all I found were the jars and at Wal*Mart, the seasoning. No one had Citric Acid or canning books. She'll get the replies this coming week by snail-mail. I suggested she have her grandkids help her get online and look up canning information. It's up to her now.......

Hello, I haven't read all of your intros yet, but I thought I'd ad mine. I am relatively new to permaculture. I took a 6 month long permaculture course online last fall/winter, but didn't complete my own design for my property here. I know a lot of permaculture theory but haven't very much experience at all in putting that theory to good use. I feel that I have a good understandign of the htought process behind it though. We moved into our house last december and the permaculture course definitley informed how I am thinking about the best way to utilize our house and land. We live in a mountain community and have about 1/5 of an acre of pretty steeply sloped land. THe back half has the hosue and is wooded, but the front is pretty bare and gets full sun. THe house is in good shape, but with the front yard so bare (and yes, erosion is an issue) it is UGLY. There are no trees to the south so we get the full force of the sun on our house, something I hope to take advantage of, someday. Mostly what I like about permaculture is how it is based in reality, and my reality is that I am quite lazy. I like phrases like "do nothing", I love the idea that doing nothing is sometimes best, cuase I like to do a whole lot of nothing! LOL. I also like that permaculture looks at the whole picture, and moves slowly, and warns against situations like building yourself a wonderful off the grid eco palace which you then have to commute an hour from in order to pay for the loan you needed to build it, thus cancellign out any benefit to the environment. The challenge for me is that my husband, while supportive of me learnign about permaculute, is not as into as I am. I base a lot of my decisions on what to do with the house on permaculture, but he doesn't, so we clash soemtiems in that regard. This has taught me to be patient (well not really, but it sure has taught me the IMPORTANCE of patience!) and I have to really explain all of the reasoning behind why I want to do it a certain way, in a way that makes sense to him. Our first major project is going to be rebuilding a route from our driveway to the house. On one side of the proposed route is the best place for growing full sun veggies, so eventually I want to terace a part of it for less frequently visited full sun vegetables. THis will be a challenge, because it also the most steeply sloped and currently not very accessible at all. On the other side of the proposed route we get full sun also, but not as much as the other side, whcih gets full southern exposre. This part will not be terraced, it will be developed just enough to be accessible. The areas closest to the entrance of the house get part sun, but it is lovely, filtered light, so i will experiment with growing shade tolerant edibles there. We also have a nice large balcony that I will use to grow salad stuff and other things that should be as close as possible to the kitchen. Well, although I never turned it in, I did work on my permaculture design report, whcih is curently 23 pages long, so before i repeat the whole thing here.... Glad to have this forum!

I haven't seen that Sue. It sounds like maybe they're requesting that you disable Adblock Plus and they're showing you how? That would be one way to handle it I suppose. Disable it on photobucket.com only and if you don't get inundated with offensive ads, leave it that way. There's an Adblock Warning Removal List on this page but when I briefly tried it, it seemed to miss the message pictured above. I love Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus. It makes it so easy to add a custom rule when the main filter subscription (such as Easylist) misses something. I've been using uBlock Origin. I like it a lot. It has an built-in eye dropper tool that helps you do a custom block. The eye dropper tool seems to do an adequate job but I kinda like the Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus better. I think it makes it easier to (using the shortcut keys) narrow and widen my selection until I get it just right. So, although I use uBlock Origin to block ads, I keep Adblock Plus around (disabled) just so I can use the Element Hiding Helper.

I agree with Snidely, it is easier for a novice user to use a MAC than a window PC. MAC OS system and interfaces implemented/used by its applications are a lot more elegant, efficient and user friendly. MAC's hardware and software are less "open" than Window's, therefore, it has a lot less virus introduced by applications and less compatibility issues between OS and Applications. I like the 'almost' seamless integration among all the apple products/devices. In spite of having an IT division to support, we frequently have PC issues at work. I purchased my first MAC for home use in the summer of 2014, so far I have encountered zero problem. "At home with our computer nerd dad we were free to experiment on our own and get really comfortable with computers from an early age". YOU may not remember how much your parents had to pay to clean up your computers. While our children grew up we also highly encouraged them to have "hands on" experience. We are computer nerd parents working in Engineering, and with Computer Science degree, yet we still paid dearly to have 'professional' to clean up our children's virus infested Window PCs many times. For MAC new users, Apple's one year support program is a great deal. During one year, the new user could use it as many times as possible by attending trainings, group learning sessions and phone in questions to fully learn the system. The support is many times better than the technical support provided by any PC sellers.
