Tomatoes and acid.... WB or PC

I spoke to my friend back east about now having to add citric acid or lemon juice to canned toms or tom sauce. Here is her problem. She wants to PC her toms and tom sauce to avoid adding these acid products because she suffers from GERD and is on a low acid diet by her Dr. If she PCs her tom sauce does she still have to ad extra acid which means she will not be able to use them herself? If so, why?

I told her I wasn't sure but if you can PC low-acid things like Lima and string beans without adding acid, it should be OK with toms. If not, please give me a brief explanation I can give her when she calls this week. I know she'll ask for a reason. :)
