Bill or other Tile experts--Help with beveled vs flat marble tile

I am doing the floors and some of bathroom wall with 12" x 12" calacatta gold. I want very minimal grout lines and was rejecting beveled tile compared to flat cut, assuming this would be the way to get the narrow grout line that I want.

My contractor is saying that I will be getting cleaner narrow grout lines with the beveled tile. Is this true?

It seems to me that it is a fantastic way to convert a 1/8" grout line to at least a 1/4" line.

What is the usual expected tolerance for this tiles cut to this size?

I'm also concerned because the room is small a number of tiles will have to be cut. Do these cuts have to be made with a bevel? If there is a mix seems like this isn't likely to work out very uniformly?

I had hoped to do a diagonal layout on the floor, and straight layout on the walls.

ADVICE PLEASE
