adbobe acrobat installed 2006; why/how activate again?

I don't understand why I periodically have a pop up stating I must activate Adobe Acrobat.
- Internet activation fails.
- Phone activation also fails because it says the supplied "Activation number is too long." in spite of using the number on the pop up

I installed the program Oct 2006, and activated it then.
- Have had these popups for several months.
- When pop ups first began, I could Cancel and all would be well. (ie, could still read & use the pdf)
- Now if I cancel, the pdf closes.

Did you purchase the full version of Acrobat in 2006? Did you activate it then? Do you NEED the full version NOW? If yes, then I think you're going to have to get their tech support on the phone. If you don't need the full version now, then uninstall it. You can always install the free Acrobat Reader or another free pdf reader...there are several.

I purchased the full Adobe Acrobat in 2006 from Adobe, installed & activated it the next day or two. I still use it as it is sufficient for my needs.

I don't understand why I get the pop up because I never downloaded or installed a trial version of Acrobat.

I forgot to mention that the pop up isn't triggered by every pdf. Don't know why.

Will try phone support, but I have my doubts because of what my son told me about his son's new job on a computer help line. "Oh, I don't need to know anything about computers because you type in the question and the computer gives you the answer." (!)

Need help uninstalling McAfee and installing Avast

albert- If your wife used Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, it has removed most, but not all, of McAfee. (If she did something else, like only deleted the shortcut for McAfee, it's still there). You can go to the link posted above for the McAfee Uninstaller, download it, and run it to remove everything. I believe it works even if you have already done a partial removal, but not sure. At any rate it won't screw anything up to try it. Also, I've never seen McAfee automatically bill for a subsciption renewal without your consent. I suspect one of you clicked on a button somewhere - like in an email to you from McAfee, or in an update notice as the program approached the anniversary date - and that you agreed to renew your subscription, and probably had to enter your credit card info for the subscription. Lastly, reassure me that you are running some other kind of antivirus software on your computer.

I am a 38-year-old (I think, hard to remember at times!), female with 2 young children and a full-time (overtime required) job with no nanny/grandparents/help. My youngest has finally reached the blissful age of 5-years-old, so I can finally let him out of my sight for a few minutes! I've had more time for hobbies this year than the past 9 years combined. I don't remember when I registered. I know I lurked on several forums starting around 2005 before I finally registered. Whenever I searched for information on things like appliances or kitchen renovations, gardenweb posts always appeared on the search engine. I started saving myself some time by searching this site first. I think Vip (vcheethi) said what I have been trying to articulate for years. As I have always suspected, this board leans heavily toward the still active, empty-nesters. I can't keep up. I do read and try to retain information for later. I've found lot of great ideas that I hope to use later. (Lately you all have me pining for a sewing machine. That may have to be my next project/hobby for my next block of free time.) Peaceful state ... yes, that is it exactly. I pop in and out of here as my time permits. Decorating is a fun "extra" to me so it comes last after all my responsibilities. I received a lot of help recently with my library. It is looking good (at least I think so). Last weekend I took the plunge and bought new curtains. Once I have them in place, I will post new pictures. I *thought* I'd have them up by now, but as always, life throws a curveball. FIL is in ICU right now. I popped in tonight for a distraction since I can't sleep anyway.

How are your white cabinets holding up?

I have off-white kitchen cabinets from Holiday, now almost 4 years old. Though I agree that the off-white makes decorating a little more challenging, we have been pleased with the quality of the finish and the joinery, and they look like the day they were installed. Two years ago we put similar Holiday cabinets in pure white in our guest bath, and Holiday white thermofoil in our laundry room. Again, all the cabinetry looks flawless. Both those whites looked warm enough to me. Six months ago, we put Woodland white cabinetry in our master bath, and wow. I can already tell it was not the best decision, but it was the only brand the contractor we wanted to work with used. And he was an excellent contractor overall, and did a fabulous job. Nonetheless, Woodland requires you to sign what they call “painted finish waiver“ and now I know why. Several of the miter joints are cracking through the paint. It doesn’t look terrible, and we are careful with our cabinetry, so I think in the long run they will be fine. But cabinet quality really does matter, especially if you don’t plan to baby your cabinets. Good luck.

Since this software is both misbehaving AND old, the only question is - do you really need it on your PC?

There are many programs and websites that can create and read pdf files - would an alternative approach suit your needs? If yes, I'd just uninstall it and end the wrestling match.

Hmm, that's definitely a thought. As you say, far less hassle. (It's certainly easy to get stuck in a rut.)

I agree with Snidely, if you do not need it to create PDF files then consider getting rid of it and installing a freeware reader. Beware if you do that, make sure you look at each screen before clicking to agree or you may get other unwanted stuff added during the install. Add or remove check marks to install just what you need, not what they might try to foist on you.
