Do you still read the newspaper?

I have been a lifelong reader of newspapers. I have subscribed to the Philadelphia Inquirer for 40 years. Whenever I go to a different place, I pick up the paper to get the local flavor.

I have always imagined my retirement to be having the time to sit and read the paper every morning with a second cup of coffee. I would do the crossword, the Jumble and the Cryptogram (but not Sudoku).

Now so many newspapers are gong out of business. My paper is half the size it used to be and I put it in the recycling bag still folded more than I read it.

By the time I get home, I've already read the headline stories at work. I never did read the sports section. The grocery stores send their own flyers instead of running ads in the paper. And most of today's news is so bad, I don't want to know.

Still, I can't imagine myself getting up and reading the news on a laptop every morning. It makes me sad to think that the newspaper as I have known it will no longer exist.

So, do you still read the paper?
