I read the Boston Globe everyday - what's left of it, that is. They have moved all of the lifestyle/arts/food articles into a folded over half newspaper section stuck inside of the pitifully thin front page, metro and sports sections. I've told my husband I think soon it will just be a sports paper.

I am boycotting our newspaper because the delivery person would not stop throwing our paper in a ditch. I was getting tired of crawling down into the wet mucky ditch to get my paper. I asked nicely, begged, and then canceled the subscription.

Don't even miss it. I do all my reading online now.

I read our local newspaper, as terribly written as it is.

It would be a shame to lose them. I don't like reading on the internet. Don't like shopping online, either. I am a very "visual" person, I like the option of paging thru and being able to flip back thru the pages as I wish.

I read our local rag. We no longer subscribe to the Boston Globe or the Union Leader (ugh!). I read online headline news from about a dozen newspapers..some every day & some, maybe, once/twice week. (LA Times, Fresno Bee, Boston Globe, Union Leader, NY Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Houston Chronicle, Great Falls Tribune, Portland Press Herlad, & the London Times)

Also read half a dozen trade publications online weekdays.

I've cancelled all of my magazine subscriptions also.

I hate print newspapers so I enjoy the ability to get the same news online. If it weren't for lasagne gardening I wouldn't have any use for print...rofl

I also read our local paper, although it's weekly, it's never been a daily. I get my local grocery store sales that way too, they still stick a flyer inside the paper.

I do get Sunday morning's Grand Rapids Press and I read it, but I mostly get it for the coupons, which my store will double on Wednesdays, LOL, and they won't take internet generated coupons because they got ripped off a couple of times.

We haven't read a print paper in a long time. I subscribe to the Kindle edition of the daily WSJ. I read several online sources every day.

After decades of subscribing to our local daily, we cancelled our subscription because we were traveling between home & the lakehouse last summer. We figured we would start up again in the fall, but discovered we hadn't really missed it. DH has a crazy work schedule that includes travel & he rarely had time to read it. He regularly reads the WSJ and he has a ritual of driving into town with his dog early on Sundays to pick up the Boston Globe and our local paper's Sunday edition, which often recaps all the major news from the previous week.

We've cut down on the number of magazines we subscribe to, but I still get excited to find one of my "favorites" in the mailbox.

Now I read way too much news every morning on the web.

I've never done it in the first place, so I certainly don't still!

The few times I've tried, I have found the newspaper to be too cumbersone. When fully open, it's so big and awkward. Plus all the resources that go into making it (even if recycle paper is used). I consider myself pretty old fashioned in a lot of ways, but I don't mind getting the news online one bit.

We try to read at least the front page of two daily newspapers. We subscribe to the shrinking LA Times and also to the more local Daily News. I like the Daily News for their regional news and their counterpoint to the LA Times' editorials. In our last election I made a point to read the Opinion sections of both papers, although I concede that many times the Daily News remains unread and the LA Times may only have the front page scanned. Nevertheless I don't want the "real" papers to disappear entirely.
I read the World News online and local too, but not from the newspapers, more from the other media outlets.

I only read the local weekly newspaper. The Bucks County Courier Times is a rag (has been for years) and the Philadelphia Inquirer is more about Center City than I care to know.

I do read a lot of news online, I don't care what the source is if the headline catches my eye, I'll read it. DH and the boys take great pleasure in sitting down on the weekends and reading a weeks worth of comics online, I can always find a crossword to do online and coupons I always forget to take to the store so it seems silly to keep them.

I still need the paper for the garden too though! Makes a great weed barrier under the mulch!

I read two of them. Both get delivered to work, so I don't even have to pay for a subscription. I used to occasionally buy foreign newspapers, like The Sunday Times and The Observer weekend edition (both British), but now they cost nearly as much as a paperback book, so I read them online instead. It's not the same.

I get the daily Detroit Free Press and love reading it with my tea and breakfast in the morning. My delivery person makes sure it is at my front door every single day. I think they have missed 2-3 days in 10 years. Even when the mail didn't come because of snow etc., the paper was delivered.

However the sign of the times and the digital age is really here. They are only home delivering 3 days a week starting at the end of this month. The other days you can elect to get it in the mail (nah...don't want it in the afternoon) or read it online (maybe occasionally, but not easy to eat breakfast and read the internet at the same time) or I will have to go up to the corner gas station and buy it. Might do that now and again or over to Dunkin Doughnuts for a paper and bagel. I think it is sad. A lot of my favorite columnists have been forced out with early retirement over the last year anyway. Easier to pay cheaper labor or get fluff fill pieces over the wire.

Waaa! I've loved newspapers my whole life and lament the shrinking of my local rag. I always read the local stuff first - like school board and library board reports. But I have a vested interest in newspapers.

Duane, you're right about forced retirements. My husband was a newspaper reporter for 43 years, so many of our friends are reporters. They are losing their jobs left and right, including the editorial cartoonist who won many major awards! That poor guy is 53 and still has kids in school.

I can't take the computer to the bathroom or the kitchen table, and since our retirement is completely gone due to the shrinking of the newspaper business, I can't afford a laptop or a kindle. Oh, woe is me.

And don't get me started on TV news. They read the stories on the air that my husband and the other real reporters wrote for the paper. They don't have reporters, just readers.

I've been a paper subscriber all my adult life. But the only reason I'm still getting the paper version is to keep our 13 year old Jack Russell employed.

Mr. Biggs has dutifully gotten the paper almost every morning (except Sunday) for the last 12 years. He goes by himself and it is around a curve and out of sight from the house about 50 yds away..... rain or shine. Barks on the front porch to come in, puts it down by the easy chair in the den and runs back in the kitchen for a treat or breakfast. Smartest 11 pound bundle you'd ever want to share a bed with!!

Both DH Joe and I have laptops now and I think that I'd rather read online. Unfortunately the quality and depth of articles in our local paper is shrinking faster than the paper itself.

Oh Grace, that is priceless. Definitely worth the cost of a newspaper subscription. He is a sweetheart. When I was a kid we had a fox terrier who would bring in the paper ,but only when asked.

Later we had a Doberman who also brought in the paper. Unfortunately, he went up and down the street and brought us everyone's paper. We had to undo that trick!

I will probably cancel the daily paper and just get it on the weekend, which is the only time I have to read it anyway. Part of me wants to keep getting it just to help to keep them going. Even our local paper can be read in about 15 minutes. I still like to look at it to read who has been picked up for DUI -- kidding!

I hadn;t thought about reading newspapers from other cities online, except the NY Times and Washington Post. Last night I sat and read "papers" from several cities on line and it's interesting to see news from other places.

I do love the Post --especially the Style Invitational. People are so clever!

LOL!... years ago we had a Lab that took great delight in running down to the road to fetch the paper out of the box. Sometimes when it was windy he would lose parts and we just kept sending him back until he had it all.

I take a paper to work to read in the lunchroom. I think the whole factory reads my paper and then it gets used as packing material. Used to take them the WSJ but mostly Detroit papers.

Had to laugh at Detroit.... two cars with middle aged adults were chasing each other, shooting at each other, they called 911 while speeding 100mph and shooting. When the cops caught up to them they were all drunk and everybody went to jail.

I live a boring life it sometimes seems... like it that way.

Sheesh all I needed was a Mr. Bigg and I wouldnt have had to cancel my paper! What a cutie!!!!!!!

I never thought I'd stop but I did, I read a few papers online every morning.
It's lazy reading, everything is in a shorter version.

We read two papers every morning. The online versions just don't have all the "good stuff." DH reads one page by page, and only checks the comics in the other, so that one is mainly for my benefit. I am seriously thinking about canceling that one, because I really don't care that much about what happens over there and it's expensive..I just need my reading-with-paper-in-my-hands fix first thing in the morning.

We do have a small local paper, but they have no delivery, and it is published twice a week and is mostly gossip (which is what some would call "local news"). No comics, no meaningful editorials, just local "who's doing what," obituaries, and a few classified ads..only they're not classified, just run all together in no categories at all. Not that there are that many, so it's not a problem.

My two dogs put together are not that clever.

We get the Sunday paper from the nearest big(?) town, and it takes about 15 minutes to read the whole thing, if you don't go through the classifieds. Mostly we get it for the coupons, and for the laughs that the headlines give us. It isn't that the news is funny, it's the way the local version of reporters head their stories--War in Pakistan Lessens More, Locals Have a Ball (this story was about calf fries, which, for non-Texans, are fried calf testicles).
Our local paper is obituaries and the latest car wreck news. Not very interesting.
I read most papers on-line, and like it that way.

I just get the Sunday paper. Didn't have paper delivery up at the lake when I lived there. Lucy, my Dane, still waits to "go to town" for the paper now that I live in the city. At the lake she would sit by the truck and wait...now she sits in the laundry room leading out to the garage. It doesnt' matter what time I get up or leave....she just keeps waiting until we go "to town". LOL
