the "funny papers"?

I sure used to everyday as a kid, but haven't done so in years. Now that's the first part of the newspaper my husband goes to every morning, with "The Business Section" the second. I'll often hear him laughing uproariously at something there, glance at it myself, and "eh'.

I'm always surprised when our local newspapers delete a comic strip and the annoyed Letters to the Editor that follow.

But I have been known to laugh heartily at a New Yorker "cartoon" that probably a lot of other people wouldn't "get".

I just like a couple that run in our newspaper. I like "Speed Bump" and "Mutts" and sometimes "Red and Rover". "Speed Bump" is my favorite. It's pretty wacky.

I read the comics, the local news and do the crossword. The rest of it is a waste of money.

I have read his book- High end stuff - I several countertop/ Table tops just to try it out and it's fairly easy, especially if you have worked with concrete before - Be prepared to have a few friends on hand when de forming and moving the finished products - your looking at 20-30 a square foot depending on 1.5 to 2 thick finished product - Caution - Some of the concrete dyes that are available have heavy metals in their ingredients - Not allowed for food prep areas- You may have to Google for appropriate dyes and stains- Any questions feel free to contact me- Bob

Oh Grace, that is priceless. Definitely worth the cost of a newspaper subscription. He is a sweetheart. When I was a kid we had a fox terrier who would bring in the paper ,but only when asked. Later we had a Doberman who also brought in the paper. Unfortunately, he went up and down the street and brought us everyone's paper. We had to undo that trick! I will probably cancel the daily paper and just get it on the weekend, which is the only time I have to read it anyway. Part of me wants to keep getting it just to help to keep them going. Even our local paper can be read in about 15 minutes. I still like to look at it to read who has been picked up for DUI -- kidding! I hadn;t thought about reading newspapers from other cities online, except the NY Times and Washington Post. Last night I sat and read "papers" from several cities on line and it's interesting to see news from other places. I do love the Post --especially the Style Invitational. People are so clever!

How do you paint shutters so that the parts still move?

It's hard to explain without seeing the shutters but just don't paint the edges of the slats and don't let paint build up there. Before you start to paint, open and close the shutters and observe how they function. Whatever makes those slats open and close it's very easy to tell how paint buildup somewhere can make them not operate well or stick. You don't want to paint any metal or hinges if that can be avoided.

Being a Dental Assistant, I've heard this question alot. Sensitivity is very common when whitening, it will go away. Do you know if she's using over the counter whitening like Crest Whitestrips? OR are they using something the neighbor's mom got from her dentist? professional whitening gel is stronger. As for age...it isn't harmful to children under a certain age (that I'm aware of) as long as they don't swollow it the main side affect is the sensitivity and that happens to adults as well.

Sure do. My life needs a little diversity, but then I'm not terribly sophisticated. Oh, I did get my "letter to the editor" published last week on my first try.

Yes, we love the comics here. We have delivered and try to read both the local major daily and the New York Times every day, but it tends to get away from us.

My hub is a retired reporter for our major daily, so keep reading those papers!

I read several most mornings. I like Family Circus, Crankshaft, and Mark Trail, and scan most of the others.

Patti43, I'm sorry if you posted about your letter to the editor and I missed it. What was it about? I have had a couple published in the MPLS tribune. Kinda fun.

Only one, and that is ZITS.

I have the weekend edition of the local newspaper delivered, and the weekdays I read on line, but only the local headlines and the Obits. All other news I get from radio and TV, and oh, yeah, the KT.

I don't have teenagers any more but for whatever reason, I love ZITS. I read it online first thing.

On the same page, is the crossword and Suduku that I do every day.
After they're finished...I get up for the day.

Patti, Hubby and I fire off letters to the editor and they do get printed. We also like emailing the local talk-radio host and he reads them as well.

"Pickles" is rather new in our Chicago Tribune. I like it.

I also read "Frazz", "Doonesbury", "Mutts" and "The Argyle Sweater". (I have no idea why the latter is named that!)

It takes two minutes and the laughter makes a good 'chaser' after the Business section and World News.

I used to read Popeye, Little Nancy, L'il Abner, & Jiggs.
Where did they go?

Now I only read Zits. He reminds me of what living with my son as a teenager was like. Nothing changes.

I always do the crossword and read Thomas Sowell.

I used to read every inch of news when I was a kid. No tv, and if course no net.

I'm a monthly columnist and so I read on occasion. Sometimes I wish I were a comic writer. It doesn't seem to require too much creativity, other than previously mentioned Gary Larson who was worth getting the paper for alone!

I love For Better Or For Worse and read it every day online. Also read some other comics in our weekend edition of the paper (we only get it Fri., Sat. and Sun.)

... or should that be, " ... as long as I've been a kid"?
