Trying to save our 50's bathroom tile
Comments (25)Most of the tile that is being talked about above was made in the mid 1920's to about the early 40's I help my husband hand salvage these old tiles for over 15 years from homes and Historical sites that are being torn down daily. Most of the tiles are either Gladding Mc Bean or American Euncaustic Tile co. Sometimes we will even find some Pomona Tile co by Hermosa .These tiles were mostly done with a baked glass like glaze making them almost impossible to salvage. Often the same type of tile was used in the kitchen and or back splash area .I personally love the salmon color as well and there is an awesome lavender that looks like hard candy. There were also early American tiles that were used on the face of fire places and in fountains in the yard. All of these companyÂs can be found in the American Art Tile Encyclopedia it is a great source of education on early California Tile Company's. These tiles are worth keeping and make you a member of the Tile club. Wanda Saving History one piece at a time.........See MoreNeed help with 50s blue tiled bathroom
Comments (2)I understand your dilemma. There are 184 shades of white and getting just the right one is not that simple. Consider using Benjamin Moores Simply white OC-117. It is not a stark white but more of a creamy white without being a yellow. I suggest you buy a sample and paint a poster and look at the color in the room before you paint the whole room. Good luck!...See MoreTaking a home from the 50's to 2020 without spending a bunch of money.
Comments (30)Not what you want to hear, but do kitchen first....it might involve removing walls that you just installed, and you might go over budget on hall and not be able to do kitchen...the kitchen will define you design aesthetic for the whole house and you can then have things radiate out from your gorgeous kitchen......it is hard to wait when you want it all done, but kitchens are expensive, so do it first. If you really want to do something in the foyer, remove the wall paper and paint it a color you hope to incorporate into your new design scheme.....it will give you a goal and a met goal in your house....which make everyone feel better.......See Moreneed help.... yellow/brown 50s tile
Comments (10)Agree with @tedbixby suggestion to paint vanity & I’d do that first. it would help if we could see a pic of most of bathroom instead of pieces you’re showing. Can you use a color visualizer tool to see what a white vanity would look like? If walls are already white that might be the only thing needing paint. I think I’d match the white to the door color. Then all you need to do is add good color accessories - shower curtain with white background & yellow design elements, towels with yellows & browns & a rug in front of vanity - maybe yellow. The yellow should be soft not screaming lemon! Looks like a nice vintage bath with tile in great shape....See MoreUser
