Does it really matter if the 50's BR's didn't have shaker? If you like it, and you're going to the trouble of replacing doors, I would do whichever style you like best. Otherwise, why not just paint your 'real 50's' doors? You're not putting in 50's light switches, and I assume you're not putting in a 50's fan. Doesn't look like a 50's toilet... I actually like the look of the shaker style drawer front in your pic, even though I have shaker doors in my kitchen and went with slab on my smaller top drawers. Problem with the shaker drawer front, is I am not sure if you can put a handle in the middle part, is there enough wood? So, if you wanted to position your new knobs/handles in the middle that might be a deal breaker. I am not sure if this option would work for you, but in our Master BR we did not have enough space to put in a 4 gang box. I positioned 2 2 gangs one above the other. You could do 3 and 2, or 2 and 2 using one double. I put my two programmable switches (and I strongly recommend using a timer switch for your fan) together, and the light switches together. In your case, I would put the three light switches on one gang, and the fan and the outlet on the other.

I feel your pain. It is just so hard to know what to do with this stuff. And in my bathroom, all the little extras are in that peachy pink color. Toilet paper holder, towel bar holder, toothbrush thingy.... Looks like we have the identical tub: and maybe toilet, too. Ours is American Standard: Different sink - yours looks like there might be storage somewhere under the sink. Instead of exposed plumbing. "You can't get a mud job like that these days" I tried to take closeup pictures of this weird paint job on the walls, but really the second to last picture in this post shows the colors best. Pink, peach, mint, and LAVENDER. I really detest this paint job, although I'm sure it took forever to do. So now I'll prowl through savethepinkbathrooms.com and elsewhere to get ideas about what to do with these walls. I'd love to know what you come up with! bean

Sometimes it is one thing (like that Pink vanity in the Peach bathroom) that really throws things off and makes the whole thing look awful. I read an article by a contributor to a building magazine, how one night, (fueled by some alcohol) he took a sledge hammer to the mismatched pink bathroom. Only to find out in daylight, when he looked at the broken fixtures and tiles piled in the yard, that only the walls and trim were actually the bright, mismatched pinks: The tile and fixtures were actually a nice gentle beige color that picked up reflection from the poorly chosen paint.

10 to 1 the tub is white. I have the very same tub. I love it because modern tubs aren't as comfortable, AND don't have that nice wide shelf for sitting, holding a drink, book, etc. Those are great lounging tubs. Mine doesn't have a liner, but is getting to the point of needing refaced. You can replace that faucet, shower mechanism easily if there's access in the wall behind the tub. Mine accesses through a closet in the adjoining bedroom. I think I'd ditch the wallpaper first, then look at colors. It's so busy it gets in the way of really seeing what you want. I think a gray/silver on the walls to match the tile might work. That vanity under the sink looks like it was added later, and I'd surely get rid of it because of the shape it's in. Plus, it looks like you have heater/vent? next to it on one side. That limits what type of vanity you could go with. Another wall mount of some sort would work if you can't repair the faucet. A good plumber who knows his stuff, and who has done tons of repairs should be able to replace the faucet, or repair it to where it will work. There might be a problem though finding the parts. Is there a storage cabinet at the end of the tub? My bathroom has a big storage, built in so if you have one, you don't necessarily need storage under the sink. I also like the idea of silver towels and other accessories, IF you can match the tile. That is lovely tile, and newer tile just isn't the same quality. Floor-I love it, but replacing with a bigger, maybe silver tile, would make the bath look less busy. Is that an option? I agree with the person who said colored fixtures might work here. I think silver/gray would give an overall finished look.
