That was a good one! LOL. I use to have fun guessing what the food was when flying. Kind of miss that fun now that they don't serve food any more.

Clare I also miss the Iberia Spanish Airline food. Theirs was the best! There was great food with a pre meal drink and then as much wine as you wanted with dinner. They would come around again and again with fresh bread rolls and pots of coffee when you had nearly finished eating your tenderloin steak in gravy.

Now they offer dry sandwiches and a thimbleful of coffee and you have to pay high prices for them.

I flew no frills Allegiant Air last week...no surprises, no food! LOL! No really you could buy boxed snacks and beverages....I needed a "beverage"...but 9 AM is too early for Scotch!

The best food I had was on Canadian Pacific (they served great filet Mignon), and the second best was Air France, where I had Crab Louis. My best friend in Mexico City said that SwissAir had the best food (and sterling silver flatware), but I also had real silverware on CP, and for that matter on the Santa Fe train, when I used to take it between Houston and Temple when I was at Rice. My favorite meals were on trains.

In the 1990s I used to ask for Kosher meals when I would fly so that I could get lactose free food. I also used to ask the airlines what color scheme was used in the decoration of the airplane interiors, so that I would not wear something that would clash. Unfortunately, they were unable to furnish me with this information and I sometimes had to be embarrassed - mostly notably when I flew Alaskan Airlines, which had horrible brown interiors with hideous brown upholstery. I happened to be wearing turquoise linen pants, a magenta shirt, and purple shoes on that flight between Seattle and San Francisco. After that, I stopped flying into or out of Seattle and only flew to Vancouver when visiting the northwest. That was in the 1980s, however.

Well, I think I'm officially happy that I've never been offered any food at all on an airline! I did get a bag of peanuts on Southwest Airlines when Elery and I flew from Detroit to Dallas, as well as two drinks. Nothing on the American Airlines flight from Detroit to California, not even a free drink, although they did sell extremely overpriced snacks like cookies and chips and the world's worst coffee.

As much as I could relate to that I just didn't find it that funny. I suppose in a dry-humor british way it was a bit amusing though.

The funnier thing was Lars dressing to accentuate the decor of the airline cabin! Now THAT is funny!

I do remember good food on the airlines. I remember mimosa's as you board...I remember prime rib sliced and served table side. I even remember a flambeua dessert served...not sure how flames were okay...but I guess it was a simpler (albeit stupider? time!).

When I was younger and in the travel business I would often fly places just to eat. I was pretty poor, didn't make a lot of money..but I had free airline passes and would often go places just to eat good on the plane. Upon arrival I had free hotels and with a few bucks could travel for less than I could stay and eat at home. Those were the days!

Shaun, that's okay.....it don't matter...everything is okie-do-kee....no worries...I don't take anything too seriously...life is too short. I just thought maybe you took exception to my comment about Lars. No worries....I love all of the personalities and comments and nothing gets me upset. Why should it? I love all of the great people on this forum. I woulnd't stick around otherwise.

I think back with some degree of nostalgia on the "plane trip from hell"...Chicago -> Newark -> Bimingham -> Athens -> Nairobi.
We ate every 3 hours...dinner with wine and breakfast 3 hours later, then tea and biscuits and lunch and tea and dinner and breakfast....
The food was lovely with fresh bread rolls and fruit and champagne and who knows what....but stop already and let me sleep!!
That was about 15 years ago.....things are very different now. I used to get a sandwich served to me between Des Moines and Kansas city...about a 40 minute flight!
