Well that wasn't smart

I have to be somewhere at 2:30. I had time to start the bread machine to make my last batch of rolls for tomorrow. I started cleaning the kitchen, got the dishwasher loaded ready to run when I can put in the last of the dirty dishes from the rolls, then went and sat down at the computer. My timer went off, I go out to make the rolls, and I NEVER STARTED THE MACHINE!!!! It takes 1 hour 40 minutes for my dough cycle. So dumb me starts the machine before I realize what time it will be ready, and the yeast was mixed with the liquid before I realized it. So it's working now, and I will either be late, or the dough will be extra risen by the time I get home. Guess I should have know what kind of day it was going to be when I woke up and had to tell DH that he would have to get me out of bed and take me to the chiropractor. Now I feel great, can move and walk, but oh boy! Problem is, my mind has been like this for 2 weeks.

Happy Easter everyone! good thing we are going away for Easter dinner!

Tami, just stick the dough in the fridge when it's finished kneading, you can shape it and give it the last rise when you get home.

Yeah, I've done that.

LOL, Annie I couldn't even do that. I got the time changed on me to 2:00 instead. I just let it go. I got home an hour and twenty minutes after it was done with the cycle. It had risen to the top of the pan, but did fine. I just cut it into rolls and let it rise again, and baked as usual. They smell great! But they don't look like bunnies! I took a pick with my phone but it's on the charger so I can't post it.

Wasn't needed for harvest this year

I am so happy for you and your family that farming actually paid and the harvest went well, it's a thing to be cherished, isn't it? Our grape-growers and the wineries on the other hand had the worst harvest in years, but then their product is one that is not so profitable in tight economic times, so an overabundance may not have been such a good thing either. As far as physical limitations, they are hard to accept, though maybe one is not really needed for something, it's good to think one can do it I am struggling with that still and shall for a while, don't like it much - they do tell me: you just don't need to worry, you deserve resting, and I am not sure about that. Hang in there, George!

kcclark, Thanks for the suggestion about keeping leaves in the fridge. Actually, I have a huge selection of milkweed within 10 steps of my back or front door. I can get fresh leaves from outside nearly as quickly as I could from the fridge. I raised around 50 cats last year at multiple different ages. All the ones I have now are within a few days of one another, so it should be even simpler. In fact, they might be just about ready to eclose for the first week or so of school. I can send them to school with my kids. Martha

The spring that wasn't

Being from the coastal Northeast, Spring is often a real disappointment--too chilly, too rainy, too stormy, too overcast. This Spring has actually been quite nice here though. The mini-drought has ended, temperatures have been mild, and there is a good amount of sunshine. Things seem to be greening up or flowering quite nicely. I remember tooooo many seasons where it was cold, plants and flowers were on hold until Mid April or latter and then suddenly it was full Summer (so if you blinked you missed the Spring only to find the tulips baking in the pre-Summer heat).--Still by Mid-April, we're basically free from a damaging frost. It really is the shortest season here. Fall is best (and the longest season). First frost occurs rather late in the year (Mid-late November and really hard frost may not arrive until Mid-December; I remember seeing geraniums and impatients in bloom until mid-December years past!) So, right now I am enjoying a decent, real Spring previously known mostly as an idealized fantasy. Happy gardening!

Insurance varies by state -- talk to your insurance company or agent to get the right info. Renter's insurance is typically to insure what the renter has on the property -- their belongings, not yours or the land and structures. It is not generally liability insurance and his getting that would be more difficult and expensive. Your property insurance would generally be the insurance to cover any damage, and you may pay more for insurance with a tenant on the premises (not only can he cause damage, he could be injured and sue you for having a dangerous condition -- where that responsibility for maintaining the property would need to be clearly set out in writing). Your situation is different from a home with daily living and the risks that come with it (cooking, plumbing, floods, fires, etc.) Contractors are often bonded to cover loss to property they work on. Something like that might be possible for your situation. The dollar amount on the property is negligible -- about $37 per acre. Make sure you know what the taxes are. Typically they would be prorated, so you would normally have 1/4 but would be agreeing to the additional 3/4. Make sure he isn't behind on the taxes or that there aren't other surprises. I think you need to talk to the pros to verify what these costs are. That should make your answer a lot easier. I don't think you can make an intelligent decision without knowing those things first.

I find I do things like that more and more. I really have to stop and consciously think about what I have or haven't done, or what I have forgotten. Of course, I am still walking around with my bank deposit in my purse despite having driven past the bank at least six times in the last two days.

One time I made a meat loaf, turned on the oven and returned an hour later to find the meat loaf still on top of the oven, not in it. Another time I put the ice cream in the fridge not the freezer. I was forced to eat an entire box of soft ice cream.

darn, dedtired, that's a shame about having to eat that ice cream. (grin)

Tami, I'm glad they came out fine, bread is pretty forgiving, I've often had to give it a third rise because I over proof it, going off and forgetting about it or overestimating the time it will take to proof. (sigh)

I didn't even try to make mine look like bunnies this year, I just left them round!

Dedtired, I did the same thing on the weekend........not the ice cream (you just HAD to eat the entire carton) LOL

I too, put my meat on the stove while the oven was pre-heating. I too came back later and there it was. Geesh. It's getting to where I check and double-check.....
