Depending on the file, if you remove a required file, be it file windows or an installed program because its infected with some bad guy stuff, you'll likely need to replace it otherwise something isnt going to work properly. It may be helpful to write down the file name and version and date.... so you can replace it when something complains.

That's where having a windows cd comes in handy. But most things can be found on the inet.

I'm confused on the warnings, too. I haven't had any viruses since downloading the AVG 8; but tons of warnings. So what do you do with them? How do you get rid of them. It seems you have to highlight each one individually, and delete them.

Something interesting happened last night. I went to my usual (free) website for email greetings cards, to send a card to someone. I got a warning that the site contained viruses. Now, before with the earlier AVG's I never got that warning. Anyway, I deleted the website from my favourites.

I got tons of warnings too that frightened me after I ran the new AVG scan.
I highlighted each one and clicked on heal (as if I knew what I was doing?) and one of the buttons and they all ended up in the vault.
Talk about shaking in my boots as I know NOTHING!
The HELP isn't too helpful either as I searched and read and found no answer there.

I just clicked on the remove tab after the scan. It moved what it could to the vault. I had to empty the vault before I could do that again to remove all of the warnings.

All seems fine, it did make me nervous though...

AVG shows almost 200 warning here, i didnt remove them as they are the SpybotS&G imuninize keys which protect you from ever installing those particular spyware and virus.

My warnings have always been cookies, so I'd like to delete them... if I can figure it out - lol.

urlee, I get a bit nervous about doing stuff on my computer, too. I agree about the 'Help' - I find it never has the answers to my questions.

I opened AVG and went up to History then clicked on Virus Vault.

Ah, thanks, urlee. I had to figure out that cookies are considered unhealed infections, remove them, then delete them from the virus vault.

Oh no, I didn't mean that in the sense that it was your fault. I just meant I didn't know that cookies were considered unhealed infections, and it sort of clicked for me on its own. An, 'ah ha' moment. : P

the new AVG8 is causing lots of people to jump ship over to AVAST free. IT is finding a lot of false positives and as stated it is picking up parts of spybot S&D as infections as well as some other good programs such as spywareblaster.

Over on dslreports there are numerous threads about how unhappy people are with AVG8. IT apparently is also on many pcs causing the cpu usage to go up to 100% almost all the time which is not good.

Many of the people over there are going to AVAST free for now. Many that did not move to AVG8 yet are staying with the older version of AVG till it's end date.

It just looks like they let AVG8 out a bit too early yet for the general population, need to work some of the bugs out still. And they definitely should have made those extras turned off at default and only available if people chose them.

The link is to the page for the AVAST! free version. IF you look at that page on the left you will see a pdf for installation instructions which is very good. AVAST is free but you do have to register it, which is quite simple if you just read the directions. Also there you should read the how to register and how to enter the activation key. You will get your activation key in your email address you set it up with, you should do the activation after you have it installed as per the directions.

So far, I'm still running AVG 7.5, AVG antispyware, IE6, and XP SP2 in hopes that these issues will be resolved before a mandatory DL to anything different is necessary. Really sorry to see this happening with AVG which has worked so well an unintrusively IMO for so long. Sandy

Just a slight differenced from previous version.
