Have you ever heard of a 'lath house'
Comments (11)I grew up in Oklahoma and we had one in our backyard. When my folks bought the place, it had an old rotten plant propagation tray in it so we removed that and bricked in the floor with some salvaged bricks. Hung some pretty patio lights out there and used it as the BBQ area with pinic table etc. Many, many hours of fun out there for the last 30 yrs! It had some sort of vine growing across the top of it. The vine almost pulled the building apart (must be about 20' x 24') and was destroying the laths on top. We reinforced the roof lath with some hog panels (heavy gauge wire panels) several years ago and it is still in great shape....See MoreHave You Heard About Red Plastic????/
Comments (12)Supposedly, the effect of red plastic comes from the light that is reflect back ( Red wave length). If it were for the purpose of warming effect, black would be the best since it absorbs almost all wave lengths and reflects none. So what is magical about the RED (its corresponding wave length) that tomato benefits from ? The full spectrum sun/day light already has that wave length in it too. The 10% increase in production CLAIM is very difficult to prove and substantiate to be due to the reflection effect. The plant might have benefited from the soil warming effect. In which case black, grey, semi clear can have a better effect. The other issue is that when plants are planted , say, at 2 ft spacing, and they have already large top (foliage) very little light will reach the ground and still very little of it will be reflected having an incident angle to hit the plant. Call me an "skeptic" on this subject (red plastic)....See MoreHave you heard of this cool gadget?
Comments (15)ROTFLOLTIWMP!!!!!! Oh, thanks for the article. What a hoot!!!! I mean, the projection system sounds cool the way you, Mo_sgal, described it. Not gotta have but really cool. Recipe Projection System. Eight in 10 of those surveyed said they cook for enjoyment, and 64% do so at least several times per week. Consumers reported wanting a wireless recipe projection system that would allow them to look up a recipe online, or even say aloud what they want to cook (e.g. "beef stroganoff"), and then have the recipe projected onto a surface in the kitchen from a small cabinet-mounted device. "Consumers reported wanting"???? What the hell kind of survey was that? One at Comdex where they showed it to some gadget junkies and asked if they wanted it? Can you imagine having a controlled survey, Gallop Poll, type of thing where they were asking you what you wanted in your kitchen and you thought, "Gotta be able to say 'Beef Stroganoff' and have the recipe projected on the cabinet!"? Especially considering that any old recipe is not what you need when you're cooking, but something that matches your tastes, supplies, style and skills. I've found lots of great recipes online but it takes a proper search and a lot of forward and back until one finds the right thing. When Mo_sgal first mentioned this I thought it was for personal recipes which one has stored on one's own computer (hence, print a new one). I think what the people in the article are talking about is a Star Trek kind of thing where the computer knows exactly what you want and gives it to you right when you ask. "Computer, look in the kitchen, see what I have, and tell me how to make something fantastic." They have all these kitchen inventory sensors they're trying to market which will tie in. For those who can't remember to look and make a list before they leave for work....See MoreHave you heard of Confiker - Affecting computers April 1st
Comments (11)It amazes me that people innoculate themselves and their children for ANYTHING, even when the shots are for the wrong disease, but won't take simple precautions to safeguard their computers, and to many, their computer is their "baby". If people are on the internet without a firewall, antivirus and malware protection; open up any email they get, including attachments, regardless of the sender, and use Internet Explorer and Microsoft's email programs, well, they deserve what they get. They should have their computers confiscated and made to stand in the corner for 2 hours. Not unlike cars, computers need very simple, basic, but REQUIRED maintenance occasionally. Then occasionally something like this gets overhyped and people panic. Take care of your computers and they'll take care of you. It's actually not a bad idea to wait a week or two to install major updates to see about bugs. Don't lose sleep over that. They'll know about the bugs within hours to a day or so and though I don't often commend Microsoft, they do a pretty good job on fixing the buggy patches. Now if only they could debug their OSs. I do not have my system set to automatically update Windows. I do the updates manually. I do have the antivirus running, update automatically and run a monthly malware check. Whenever these things come up, I ask the question of the day: Have you backed up important stuff lately? How many haven't? Would you lose sleep if everything on your computer disappeared? BTW, before panicking, be aware that Microsoft issued a patch for this in 2008 so if you haven't updated since then, well, see above. Also there's a number of other articles on this that don't share the doom and gloom of this blog. Be informed and make your own decision. Happy computing!
