Hi Nan, I'd like to check these out, so I'm sending you an email this morning. If anyone is interested in the template for my sowing chart, don't hesitate to email me. While preparing to sow this year, I'm finding that last year's chart has been invaluable and refer to it often. While sowing, I fill in the names, etc. in the chart with a pencil, but then will enter that in Excel later. It is easily adaptable. Still want to make a few edits myself. It is fairly simple...once you understand it all! It used to be that you had to type in DOS commands and couldn't click on anything on the screen: that was simple, but not very much fun. It sounds like you are trying to teach yourself to do things by clicking and guessing, and by assuming it will be the same as previous. You can do that, but in my experience you never know what you don't know, and you waste a lot of time. For example, how much time have you spent on this one issue? My suggestion is -- and don't be insulted -- that you need to buy yourself the book "Windows 7 for Dummies." The Dummies series are very helpful books (I've used them myself) that walk you step-by-step through how to make things work. One idea, Get a high speed USB cable, The shorter the data cord the better, try to use one that is less than 7 feet long. Longer cords will interfere with the sent information speed due to distance. If by chance you're connected to a USB Hub and other USB devices are connected to it, this will also slow the process down. As far as why 883MB continues to wait, no idea on that.

Thank you both: chkdsk C: /f /r didn't fixit. Only C:/ was checked. Took maybe an hour whan I returned the comp was restarted and no mssg. So I ran sfc and got same old mssg as above. I did get the CBS.Log file open, took one good look and said, "Ahah!" Musta been a mile long. I then ventured into Event Viewer and perused the info put forth in the Winnit file and found this sentence, "Windows has made corrections to the file system." Ahah #2! This must be a clue of some sort. Presumably there is something neither sfc nor chkdsk can fix or the sfc mssg is a false negative. That's hard to believe. Maybe it's just some oddball file(s) lying there loose serving no purpose. That seems a stretch. ================== I see the WD Element must have problems. People are removing the HDD from it to hook it to something else to recover their data. ========== I use 2 separate kind of HDD's plus drag N drop some limited stuff to a Thumb drvie for quick retrieval.
