Bells and Whistles in Bathroom
Comments (15)I went yesterday alone to the plumbing showroom, I was overwhelmed, all these people in there with their designers and I thought geez am I making a mistake trusting only my decisions. Looked at the Toto toiliet, was really just getting feet wet because going with contractor today. I just got the proposal from contractor, we are adding sq feet to master along with bath, none of the whistles were in the price, I pick all my towel bars, toilet, lights, everything....so it that the norm? I guess could be good or bad....puts the budget on my shoulders for sure. This could add another $$$ for sure, I would suspect that the flooring and cabinet the biggies......See More5 ft drop in or undermount tub
Comments (32)Not too late at all-- we have not even broken ground yet, I am just trying to get all the decisions made, or at least narrowed down, as soon as I can. I'm glad to hear you like the Andrea, and that you found the 60 x 32 to be comfortable. That is the one I have tentatively decided on, even though I haven't found one to sit in. I looked really carefully at the specs and it seems the closest in back slope and arm rests to the tub I have now, even though this one is much longer. I do like the modern lines as well. Are you doing the drop-in or undermount? I guess if i do a tile deck, I'll have to do the drop-in, but it should look fine. (You are so right, a lot of the modern sleek-looking tubs have way to straight of a back for me.)...See MoreTub/shower combo or tub and shower stall
Comments (15)I know I probably went overboard, but I have been searching Houzz for shower/tub combos for myself if I decide to go in that direction. Most of these pictures have Master Bath titles - they tend to be small houses or apartments in large cities where space is an issue. They all have a generous sized tub. A few have extra shower bling and even a separate tub filler. All of them have material choices and the level of tile work that you see in a master bathroom. I'm sure that if I searched Houzz I could find just as many, or even more, remodels of small master baths where they have just built a walk in shower. I think the decision to do a shower/tub may be a personal choice because they want a soaking tub - since they are titled Master I'm assuming the bath is not the only bath in the house and they could easily just go with a shower. Comments (6)The Waste & overflow you in your link is a conventional slip joint type, but your tub is a skirted tub. In order to install that waste & overflow you would have to have a 12" x 12' service access panel either up from underneath or through an adjacent wall. When you have a skirted tub with no access panel you are required to install a solder-in or glue-in type waste & overflow depending upon whether you have copper or plastic (ABS or PVC) drain lines. The glue-in types are made in both ABS & PVC and must be matched to the type of pipe being used to construct your DWV (drain, waste & vent) system. A glue-in type waste & overflow will have three primary components, the overflow body, the tub shoe and a Tee. Some kits provide a small supply of pipe, but generally it only supplies the fittings and the installer will custom fit and connect the fittings with stock pipe. The kit will also include the trim out fittings, which are the metal overflow cover, the tub basket and the stopper mechanism. depending upon which type of stopper you choose. You can get the conventional lever lift type stopper that has a control handle on the overflow cover, or you may select a lift & turn stopper or a toe touch stopper. You can also select what finish you want on the metal parts. Typical polished chrome, brushed chrome, Nickle, Oil rubbed bronze, or gold, and some manufacturers even offer the colored enamel finished ones such as used in Europe in Red, Blue, White or black. The good news is that the plastic ones have a much longer anticipated service life and they are only a fraction of the price they are listing for the one you have shown. Typically the glue-in kits start at about $25 and up, depending upon what type of stopper and what finish you select. I have made an illustration to help you see what a glue in kit looks like. Note that the pipe is just plain schedule 40 PVC or it could be ABS, depending upon what pipe they are using to make your drains, and your installer will supply that pipe. The illustration also shows plumbers putty under the lip of the tub basket, that will be supplied by the installer as well....See Moremahatmacat1
