Computer Won't Start!!

When I turn on my computer, it goes all the way to "Windows Starting Up', then cuts to a dark blue screen telling me "Inaccessible Boot Device", and to try reboot and if that doesn't work, check for viruses, run CHDSK /F etc. I'd dearly love to run Malwarebytes, I can't do that unless the computer is on!

About 20 reboots haven't worked, and tapping F8 during startup does nothing. Pressing Shift/Tab gives me the options of:

local drive boot

try local drive boot first, then network

try network first, then local drives

boot according to BIOS setting

I have tried all 4 options several times each, but all lead back to the dreaded blue "stop" page.

I had earlier in the day followed a Secunia warning to install a Microsoft Updates update(!), which I did, as it was a direct link from the Secunia site, and Scotty didn't bark and WOT didn't appear. Now this...

One thing I did notice, was that during all the aborted startups, there is a flash of a page I've never seen before..."CORECELL EXTREME CHIP you've ever needed. MSI Micro Star International."

Is it time to take my computer fishing and use it as an anchor (without the rope), or can any of you good people offer help please ?

Think I'd be unplugging all the hard drive wires and be replugging them in to try best to make sure all the contacts are good on both on the hard drive, power and motherboard, both ends of the cables.

Then looking in bios too and make sure hard drive was set for the type of drive I had or set auto.

Sure would be nice to know what version of windows and the stop code from that blue screen.

Its a 120V AC starter. You plug one end into the snowblower and the other in a wall outlet. Tried that. Tried a couple different extension cords in fact. First time I tried with a regular orange outdoor extension cord, of about 20 feet. Nope. So I think "maybe its loosing power over that distance" so I tried the short 6 foot cord it came with. *click Today I'll be trying different outlets to see, its possible that old outlet in the garage is bad, I'll try the new GFI on the patio.

Sounds like something is getting corrupt. The 1st thing to do is to click start - then run, type in msconfig. Go to the tab that says startup. Usually the 1st few entries you shouldn't need to touch. Look for things like realsched qttask itunes WksSb WkUFind msmsgs msnmsgr Nero jusched adobe.... microsoft office microsoft works microsoft fast find office startup once you uncheck them click on apply, then ok. It will ask to restart, click ok. See if it will shut down. You can try restarting one more time for the changes to take effect. Post back.

Unfortunately my sudden refusal to shutdown, seems to be quite regular. I click "Turn Off From the Start Menu" We get to the windows is now (closing)shutting down screen, the jingle plays...and we are not on nor off. Its Microsoft limbo hell. Mouse control has shut down. Can I delete .Net Framework 2.2 without hell to pay? My gut feeling is my problems are stemming from .net or the Merc board. The Merc board once shut down my Morrowind game and cancelled the tilde key assignment. Even Bethesda Softworks said there was nothing I could do. Ideazon support told me to upgrade my all keyboard drivers to hid, and that (unknowingly) knocked out the PS2 keyboard drivers used by the laser mouse assignments...it wasn't until I redownloaded the laser mouse drivers, did everything start to work. I can now cheat on my game to my hearts' content. (The tilde key brings up a game console where dirty little cheaters, like me, can enter codes to cheat.) This driver install and uninstall freeze with this crappy keyboard, that I'm stuck with to save money, is going to break me. It might have caused some problems. I had to reboot my computer from the default settings in bios. Although there was a warning on the Microsoft update site about one of .net updates rendering some computers unresponsive? Well! gee. I CANNOT DO A SYSTEM RESTORE! I tried a few different restore points...and honest to Pete!...I got this message saying the system hadn't changed so they weren't going to bother, there wasn't any point!? I mean, I never!!! What the????

I just turned my computer on for the first time today, Tuesday. The first time the hard drive light stayed on for a second and turned off. The second time the hard drive light flickered 3 times and then went off. The third time the hard drive light came on solid and then flickered 3 times and then the black screen came up saying "We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully....." But then Windows proceeded to load and my computer is now working. I do not hear any beeping sounds. I'd appreciate any more ideas you have with this information. I am taking a video of the lights blinking with my iPhone which makes it easy to remember what happened. Thanks, Ginny

Will get stop code from blue screen when I go home from work (where I'm typing this!)

And yes, Pam, same computer, but I've used it a dozen times since that registry repair, with no probs. Immediately prior to this latest glitch, I'd updated and fully scanned with MWB and SuperAntiS. The Secunia stuff happened after those scans...

if it is his regular pc it is windows 2000 I do believe.

Shax can you get to safe mode at all? if so you can run malwarebytes in safe mode, it sounds like it could be something from that update that did not agree with your system. I just don't know much about windows 2000.

You could try to get a linux live cd and stick it in the cd drive and see if it will boot to the live cd and using it you could at least see your windows partition and save your files.

oh yes you were using a registry cleaner??? hum well that could definitely cause some issues, do you happen to know if that one you used created a back up of your registry? Not that it will help very much if you can not get to boot.

Last night I pulled out all leads and cables and re-connected them, but problem is still there.

Can't get to safe mode at all.
Linux CD? My eyes are glazing over....beyond my capabilities!
Registry Mechanic was the cleaner I used. Have used it successfully for years before uninstalling it on the advice of many here. I only used to run it and click the fix problems button. Never went into any other parts of the program.

I just dunno...might have to upgrade to Windows 2001 :>D
