Looking for an e-reader: Does anyone have the April PC World?

I take PC World and yesterday, among other things, cut out a small article about an e-reader my husband and I like--only to lose the clipping.

I don't remember its maker, but think its name began with "O" and had four letters. The one pictured was white and said to be less than 1/2" thick and around 6" high and maybe 4.5" wide. Its price may have been about $199. I have been looking on the PC World site, but so far have not been able to find it.

My mistake raven. I went back into my router settings and found this. Looks like I do have a Mac address. Will doing this help with the PDN? I'm a bit confused....big surprise? âº MAC Address MAC is an acronym for Media Access Controller. All network components including cards, adapters, and routers, have a unique "serial number" called a MAC address. Your ISP may record the MAC address of your computer's adapter and only let that particular computer connect to the Internet service. When you install the router, the Router's own MAC address will be "seen" by the ISP and may cause the connection not to work. Belkin has provided the ability to clone (copy) the MAC address of the computer into the router. This MAC address, in turn, will be seen by the ISP's system as the original MAC address and will allow the connection to work. If you are not sure if your ISP needs to see the original MAC address, simply clone the MAC address of the computer that was originally connected to the modem. Cloning the address will not cause any problems with your network. To Clone your MAC address, make sure that you are using the computer which was ORIGINALLY CONNECTED to your modem before the Router was installed. Click the "Clone MAC address" button. Click "Apply Changes". Your MAC address is now cloned to the router. My netbook and other computer connects just fine with out the cloning. I don't know much about this router stuff..*Ã*

I knew I should have clicked on this thread yesterday! lol Jaybird, I was the one that led Corey here. I felt bad for the way she was treated - then banned. Hers is one blog (besides AM) I check on every single day. If you haven't read in awhile, go back a few weeks and read about their motorcycle trip. JaneF had asked to use my kitchen in KWL. Several months later, she asked if I was interested in writing a shopping post once a week. It's fun, but sometimes takes longer than it should to write. I tend to find an item, then get interested in something else.....then something else, etc etc. lol funcolors, I am following you on Twitter. Look forward to checking out everyone's blogs!

yes we are both enjoying them, it is a good additional reader for me and is my husbands first. It is so light weight compared to my PDN it is very easy to hold. I have added some books on the SD card also. For $49 for us it was a worthwhile purchase. I do not know if they will re-run that sale price or not, I told a friend about it and he found a CVS with several he bought all of them to give as Christmas gifts.

One of Santa's Elves is giving my son and I Kindles for Christmas this year, and I am SO EXCITED! There are literally THOUSANDS of free e-book downloads...Almost all of the classics - go to amazon.com and find the link for the Top Kindle Downloads - a lot there are free. Also search at Amazon "free kindle downloads" or "free kindle books". I've already loaded close to 100 books on my son's kindle so far, classics like The War of the Worlds, and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I can't wait till he opens it and sees... We are SO fortunate, I think this will be THE gift of the century, for both of us. From what I understand, the First Generation Kindle has an expansion slot, where the latest version does not. Something to take into consideration if she REALLY likes to read. I think the First Generation ones are less expensive as well. april

well one good thing about it is that it runs a linux based operating system (many do now) so should be fairly stable, however it does not take a lot of the most common ebook formats. Not a bad price. I use my kindle for pc on my netbook so much that I really would like to have a dedicated reader but I really would like it to utilize more formats and even the kindle books formats.
I like the pictures that are available of it here on amazon it shows it in hand and with a purse and in comparison to paperbacks.

I happened to see this awesome review of that Astak reader, it really has me looking hard at this device.

Thanks, Raven. I also like that EZ Reader Pocket PRO, but Mobi is not listed among the formats it recognizes. I have to confess that I have no idea what Mobi is--never heard of it before. What might I need it for? I am more interested in downloading very old, free books than in buying newer ones, as I use Paperbackswap.com and the rather good local library for those.

After seeing in reviews that the Opus has abysmal customer service, I have given up on that one.

yes I saw the bad reviews on the Opus and the fact they do not put out the new firmware they keep promising, not good.

Mobi is a format that has been around a long time and it is one that a lot of people have books in, it is also one of the formats that convert from the amazon kindle to be able to use them on phones. Just surprised that many do not have the mobi format. The EZ reader pocket pro does not have mobi but it does have a LOT of formats which is good.

I also saw one that will be coming out this summer in the US, is not out in Canada that might be worth looking at.
Kobo eReader price point is cheaper.

I just really so much like the fact that with the kindle you can wirelessly connect and get books instantly where ever you are and their top listed books are all just $9.99 that can really add up in savings right there when on other sites the books are pretty much full price. My sister and brother in law have them and love them and I liked using theirs, just not ready to pay the price.
