So, now I have a sinus infection after getting over/through ? the upper respiratory infection over Christmas. It started Saturday with a sore throat and cough, I will be out of work all this week. Finally got to the doctor today who put me on Prednisone, an antibiotic, Musinex D, and ta da! a cough medicine that cost $25.00 a bottle! Yikes! I nearly croaked when I saw that! Oh well, the generic meds are now $4, down from $7 so I guess the drug chains need to make up the difference some how.

I can only sleep about 3-4 hours a night then I wake up and stay awake; have no appetite, which can be a good thing. And Netflix delivers tomorrow.

Will this cold and flu season ever end? Anyone else under the weather? Jessy, how are you feeling? Better I hope.

(pat on the back) "There, there....you poor little thing. I hope you will feel better very soon."

Oh, and Stash Lemon Ginger Herbal Tea is wonderful when you have a cold/sorethroat/cough. Trust me on this!

I'm sorry to hear that you are still feeling puny. This has been going on for a while.

Any poor Jessy, her's is so bad she has to use a cooking thermometer. Maybe we should get her a Thermapen.

I've been waiting for Raymond to get a cold so I could try the trick that I heard back in the summer. It worked! Rub Vicks Vapor Rub on the feet not on the chest. Then I heard it again on the news last night.

Get better my friends.

thank you everyone! its funny cuz I didnt think anyone would reply to this cuz it wasnt in the gallery, so I had put another post over there, and forgot about this one, lol. Joann, lol..yeah I already have my next pond planned out, an above ground extension to the bigger in-ground pond, connecting via a stream. Hope to get a bridge or build one to go over the stream..so the money for that project will be my Valentines day gift, easter gift..hopefully it wont extend beyond those two holidays, but I am sure that any money he gives me for our anniversary & mothers day will go toward the ponds as well, lol. I am SOOOO excited and can't wait to start all the fun!! BoTann, yes I did all by my lil lonesome. my son took pics for me as I was going, thats the only 'help' I got. LMAO my hubby didnt help one bit, except for the money. He doesn't 'get' my gardening and ponding. Actually I prefer that he doesn't help me..I like to do things my way, by myself..it's terrible I know, but even if by some miracle he offered to help, I'd say no, lol. I just love working in the yard, digging and making things happen, like the pond. Nothing else gives me the feeling that I get from doing yard work..love it! This stuff keeps me SANE!!!! Kristy! girl! how ya doin? lmao..yup, pj's and boots and started as soon as I woke up that day..can we say impatient? lol! I can't wait to see more pix of the progression of the GH. I'm glad you got GH building supplies for Xmas, lol! DH still thinks I'm nuts I want dirt for Xmas, Mulch for Mothers Day, lmao. He thinks its such a waste of money, phooey! yay, you're gonna do more ponds? SOO addicting isn't it?? I wish I could h ave my whole yard ponds and gardens...seriously now come on..do the kids & dogs REALLY need room to play? lol. Our winter was very long and cold without many of our usual warm spells to break up the cold. For example, most winters we usually have many warm spells that are several days of warm weather which thaws the ground before the return of cold freezing weather, but this year we only had 2 or 3 of these. We were significantly colder than normal from October through January, but had a mild February and early March before having well below normal temps in mid-March and April. Many evergreen conifers(mostly Pines, Yews, and Cypress, no damage on my GG's) here had problems as well as many broad-leafed evergreens and many evergreen perennials too. Many of these plants are zone 4 hardy and have significant burning and die-back. Even though we never dropped below 0ÂºF(-17.8ÂºC) here. Some of this damage showed up last fall, so something strange happened here last fall, as well. But it's a bit more elusive to figure out so far. No droughts, no extreme heat, no sudden temperature or humidity changes occurred last year that I can see. Many deciduous trees and shrubs had their foliage dry up and hang on instead of the normal fall leaf color change and dropping in usual falls also. Most things seem to be coming back alright and it doesn't appear that other than an odd branch dead here and there that there will be any long term losses from this past winter/fall. Also, Buddleia are mostly partial die-back shrubs here. It's usually recommended to trim them back hard even if they don't die-back. No problems with temps down to -21ÂºF(-29.4ÂºC, our all-time record low) here. They died back to the ground, but came back and bloomed the next year. Same for the Crepe Myrtles here(most died back to within 2' to 3' of the ground). Although, I do have one that's been through temps down to about -12ÂºF(-24.4ÂºC) without any winter damage.

IM kind of a pretty big weather buff myself, and I used to get the farmers Almanac every year when I was a kid as well. I still read it for its interesting articles and such, but really, I think that NOAA is more accurate as its more science based rather than on oak trees "MASTING", and other natural phenomena. For those who don't know, "MASTING" is when Oak trees overproduce acorns to an extreme amount. It happens from time to time some reigons, and from what I understand is more of a survival insurance than anything else. It happend here several years ago, and it was truly incredible just how much acorns were produced. Never seen anything like it. I think it only occurs once in like every 50 or 100 years or something. Anyway...Im still hoping for ( and thinking that it will be) a very mild winter here in the Mid Atlantic. We have the same saying here... " if you don't like the weather in D.C., wait 5 minutes". While its not that volatile all the time, we do get fairly changing weather for large portions of the year, especially spring and fall, we were can see 40 degree differences in temps in sometimes as little as 12 hours. The D.C. Metro just does not have the same winters it had regularly up until about 1995 or so. The last true "blizzard" we had here was in 1996. The rivers and bay almost NEVER freeze over anymore in the last 10-12 years here, and seeing teens and low 20's in the city is fairly uncommon anymore. Were also very hurricane prone here as well, although most are usually strong to medium tropical storms by the time they get here. Although, a few have come through at a category 1 hurricane, like Isabel in 2003. IIRC, it was finally downgraded to a Tropical Storm once it moved just north of the D.C. Metro. Its center passed about 50 miles due west of downtown D.C., putting most of the metro area, and most of VA/MD in the worst / strongest quadrant of the storm. What a trying 24 hours that was. I rode it out in my east facing 14th floor apt at the time, and we had sustained winds up there of 82 MPH for several hours at the hight of it, with a gust to 106. That was the gust that blew the anomometer off of the balcony railing. I can tell you the vines that I could not get down, and the 10' river birch in a large half whisky barrel were all defoliated by the winds, and quite a few of the windows were blown out on the east and south facing windows of the high rises we lived in. Im glad we heavily tapped our large plate glass windows up, because those were the ones that were breaking into peoples apts. Anyway, lots of varied weather here. It keeps things very interesting. I just wish we were 1 zone warmer! Who knows, in the close in dowtown areas of NoVA and DC we have moved into a zone 8 in the last 10-14 years, maybe a zone 9 is coming? Im not for "global warming" but man it would be nice to have even milder winters than we do now.

Dawn, thanks for doing that. So now anyone interested can go directly to the Exchange Forum. Mary, it isn't always easy to get a thread deleted here but since everyone now knows your thread is in the Tomato See Exchange area they can go there to contact you. Mary, the reason there's a separate Forum for wants and Haves and trades is b/c when I first came here to GW many years ago the newly created Tomato Forum was filling up with all the requests for wants and haves and trades and it was getting ridiculous and so Spike, the then owner of Garden Web, created the separate Forums of the Tomato Exchange Forum to get all of that in sepearate Forum and he also created the other two Forums for Pest and Diseases and the picture one, so as to split off all of that from this general Discussions Forum. And it does work very well having those three separate Forums, especially the Tomato Seed Exchange Forum. it's also true that some folks don't see that Forum and usually someone here directs them to the Tomato Seed Exchange Forum and in this case it was me b'c I saw your post first. I did try my instant read cooking thermometer out to see if I was running a fever - LOL! I wasn't and it was close enough.
But I did buy a digital thermometer anyway. Somewhere in my house is some mercury just itchin' to be free.....

Awwwww Teresa. I'm sorry.

I'm still coughing but not 'producing' so I'm not on antibiotics, which I hate. DH got a $$$ inhaler - steroids - Flovent? which he said he isn't sure helped. He was also on prednisone and he swears by Robitussin.

I'm mostly weak. I run an errand, or do carpool, and crawl back to bed. I am making dnner tonight, though, two nights of take out was enough!

Oh a trick I learned with the instant read thermometer - sit in front a mirror and figure out the numbers. I found that if I took it out of my mouth to look (shut up), it started declining too fast.

Just come up to Chicago or to Michigan and the cold weather will freeze those nasty bug viruses right out of you.

And doesn't an instant read need to go into a meaty part to be accurate? DARFC>>>

I feel bad for you! Jessy, too! I had that last year where it just lingered...

Sinus infections are just awful.

When I'm sick I always like to have my tea in a pretty china teacup. It just gives me a lift! I am picturing you with one of your pink transferware cups...

Or maybe I would make that tea a Hot Irish:

Hot Irish recipe
1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
4 oz boiling water
1/2 slice lemon
1 pinch ground cinnamon

Pour into a heat-proof goblet, sweeten with brown sugar (to taste), and serve.

My grandmother used to drink them. She added cloves to a whole lemon, though. She probably left out the water, too. The "aromatics" help!

Top Chef is on in a few...you watching this year?

Maggie, that Hot Irish sounds pretty good and I don't even drink the stuff, but I do have some left over from making Irish Whiskey Cake. That would stop the coughing fits.

You bet I'm watching Top Chef. My impression so far is that these chefs are maybe not up to the caliber of the previous seasons. Lots of "characters" on this season. I was a little surprised that they sent Ariane packing, but as they said, each elimination is judged on its own, not how the chefs did in other elimination challenges.

Teresa, I'm sorry to hear that you are still under the weather. Hopefully the drugs will kick in soon and you will be back to normal. I hate these types of colds/bugs/infections that morph into something else and linger for weeks.

Yes, Jessy - Tussionex Pennkenetic (sp.?) The prednisone and antibiotic leave such a bad taste in my mouth I have to psych myself up and have a bite of something ready to get the taste out before I take the pills. I'm such a wimp....

Jessy congrats ont he "green"...in the future when you get something that makes you feel horrible for forever, ask...no DEMAND a throat culture. Chances are you have a bacterial infection and need an antibiotic.
Now take some guyafenacin, skip the Robotussin( it contains guyafenacin) and drink drink drink!...water lemonade more water and then you can have a glass fo wine!

Ahhh, the crud. Nothing quite like it.

We got this email at work today:

There appears to be some increase in nausea, vomiting and diarrhea at some of our area nursing homes. This a public health alert that I received in December I am resending and expanding the list of recipients to include ancillary departments. It seems that this virus may have reached our Community. Please share the information with your staff. An increase in employee sick call outs reporting N/V/D should be reported to Infection Control. This virus usually makes folks miserable for a few days. This virus is sometimes called the "cruise-ship virus", it can be very contagious, hand washing is the best line of prevention, even in your home! Employees with diarrhea should not come to work.

Oh yeah -- please, if you've got the runs -- stay home.

And to all those people on my hall at the office: if you are coughing your head off for weeks on end or sneezing every few minutes, do us all a favor and go see a doctor, then stay home until you are well!!!

I have another nasty cough and this time I'm trying 'Tessalon Perle' aka Benzonatate. $13.00 for 50 capsules, four per day. So far so good!

I'm doing better -- been sick since January. I'm down to just a cough, morning headache and stuffy nose.

Jessy, I'm on the Tessalons, too. Along with inhaler and a few other things. When will this ever end????

Jessy and dlynn, I'm so sorry to hear you have been sick this winter. I dodged the bullet early on but ended up with an upper bronchial thing in January. Thank heavens for the Wellness Clinic nurse who got me on a z-pack antibiotic, good old prednisone, and ta dah! an inhaler. I only missed one day of work this time instead of weeks at a time.

Now I'm trying to fend off a co-worker's sore throat. We wipe down everything whenever we switch off on the reception desk. And now, there is a stomach virus going around in our area - nasty but short lived.

Thank goodness I haven't had anything since last fall when I got H1N1, except this stupid rash on my face.

Today I got antibiotics, some kind of sulfur based face wash and we'll see, but I feel fine. Look kind of ugly, but I feel fine, LOL.

Jessica and dlynn, I hope you both feel better soon...

DH came down with something nasty on Tuesday, starting in his throat and moving down into his chest today, with fever. He has the luxury of sick days at work. I'm crossing my fingers I don't get it, cause I won't be able to take time off work right now - it's springtime, which is our busy season, and no work, no pay. Poor DH, though, when he's sick, he suffers. He's had pneumonia before, so we have to be very careful when he gets sick. The clinic was concerned enough to do xrays, and his lungs were clear. I'm hoping they stay that way. He has antibiotics, an inhaler, some kind of mouthwash, and cough medicine, so I think he's set - all he needs is time to heal.

Jessy and DLynn, I hope y'all get better quickly. It's no fun being sick.
