The Brightest Moon of the Year!

Thanks to Lars mentioning that tonight the moon would be the brightest of the year 2010 and we were lucky here to have a clear night sky.

I don't have a telephoto lens so used my Olympus point & shoot cam with the 18x zoom on a tripod and used the timer. I'm so pleased with the results.

Details of the settings: Manual, f/4.5, shutter 1/160, ISO 50, tripod and self timer at 2 seconds.

Thanks. All shoots bear flowers on the Asians too; nonetheless the spur growths are an important part of the maturing of the vines to a flowering state, so I'm curious to see if they occur on the native type too. It's pity - and surprising too - that there doesn't seem to be detailed botanical information out there on the native types. Perhaps I'm just not using the right search terms.... update... I just did a search on 'Kentucky wisteria flowering spurs' and found the U. of Illinois Extension site that says 'in summer, prune excess growth back to 1/3 to induce short spurs' so that would seem to indicate that they do occur for the American types too - although the 5-10 years to bloom seems to me to repeat the common view of Asian types, not what is commonly said re American types. There is a lot om misinformation/foggy information on wisteria out there! That's why I'd like to see for myself (through your camera!) what the actual situation is. Funny, I hadn't read about its brightness, but, it caught my eye last night so I ran out to try to catch a little of it. However, like Murraysmom, it was in the teens so I tried a braced shot rather than setting up a tripod. Nigh pic. Bad idea of course, But, with the thin wispy winter clouds rolling past the knarled branches of a couple of locust trees I shot it through, it made for a kind of eerie pic anyway. I have two colors that are yellowish. I've had them up for 8 years and I still love as much as ever. In my kitchen I have Vista's Beach Sand and my hallways and entry are Mushroom cream. Sharon, that IS just amazing. It's overcast here, I doubt we'll see the "Wolf moon".

Tell Wolf it's all for him, LOL, that's what the Native Americans have always called it, the "Wolf Moon".

Great picture - I couldn't see it at work, however, and so I just now got to view it.

Closer to the beach, the skies weren't so clear, but I took pictures through the clouds anyway. I haven't looked at them yet, but I know the images will be blurred by the clouds. A few minutes later, the moon was in clear skies.

Super bright moon in a perfectly clear sky here in NY as well. Quite a beautiful picture you have taken, SharonCb.

I couldn't help thinking; there are foot prints on that distant chunk of rock.

I cannot think of any more verbs to describe the teriffic photo Sharon. Better than a professional shot I would say. Just as a funny aside though - look at the right end and you see where the watermelon was detached from the vine. ; )
