Which Vacuum? Riccar Pristine, Sebo Airbelt, Miele Callisto?

You can find good and bad quality made in every single country but we have a ridiculous trade deficit with China and many other countries. Every dollar we spend on a product made in other countries with which we have a trade deficit is a dollar that never comes back to this country. This is not a sustainable model and is economics 101 - if you spend more than you make, you go crash. But regarding the vacuum, Simplicity's uprights are made in the US but I really need a canister. They have a new story from a few years ago on their flash page that says they were planning to bring manufacturing of the canisters back home from Korea. The sales person at my local shop said the canisters are assembled here but I got home and the box says Made In China so back it goes. I've emailed Simplicity and I'm going to call the shop and see what I can find out....See MoreWon a Miele S7 Tango Vacuum - What Would You Do?
Comments (8)The Miele upright would do okay on floors, as well as carpeting. But you have to ask yourself, "Do I really want to push this heavy machine across the floor, when I could have a canister and push a very lightweight wand, with floor brush?" Pushing that floor brush across the floor is so easy to do. It can get inbetween furniture and under some furniture without difficulty. If you have some carpeting, then I would add a power nozzle to the canister. An upright, with onboard tools, is better suited if you have quite a bit of carpeting to vacuum, with some floors and above the floor cleaning added....See MoreWhat to do wtih a miele S7 Red Upright vacuum
Comments (7)We entered a drawing at our local appliance shop when we purchased our gas range. We got a call yesterday that we had won a Miele vacuum cleaner. When I picked it up, the salesman said it was worth about $500. I went home and googled it and found that they actually retail for $850! We also got a year's worth of bags in the deal. Our 5 year old Kenmore has issues and needs repair or replacement (again!). Needless to say, we were delighted. Now comes the rub - Uprights are really best on carpet. We have hardwood throughout the house with just a couple of area rugs. We'd be much better served with a canister. I'm thinking of eBaying the S7 and purchasing a Miele canister (likely the Callisto) with the cash. Does this make sense or is the Titan good for hardwood floors as well? Please help us decide....See MoreMiele canister vacuum question
Comments (3)Each of my family members owns a Miele vacuum in their house. I currently have i think the Callisto. It doesn't have the powerbrush, but we have mostly wood floors. I did replace the normal air-filter with the HEPA air filer, but this has been running on the machine for over 2 years now and it still looks clean as a whistle. This is testament to Miele's ridiculously awesome bags. You will know what I mean when you see them. They are made out of a very dense, but breathable material, and nothing seems to get through them. (Except smells, if you vacuum something stinky) Do you really need the HEPA filter? I suppose that depends. I have very bad allergies so we do, but if no one has allergies in your home, I would imagine the regular filter combined with Miele's bags should be fine. I doubt many particles make it out of there. Everytime I replace a bag, the inside of the vacuum is clean as the day I bought it, so I don't think any dust or particles are escaping. Not I or any of my family have bought the Sealed System versions. I don't know exactly how much better the results are, but it doesn't sound like dust is much of an issue for you to begin with. I would think you would be more than happy with the Delphi. Hope that helps, Anthony Appliance Buyer's Guide...See More- 10 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
