Did I...or 'do' I have a virus?

Yesterday, my McAfee tried to update and I got a notice that my computer wasn't protected. I tried their "fix" button and virtual technician before contacting them by chat. Some of the things they were trying with me wouldn't work so they told me to run the stinger tool. In the meantime, I tried the update again and it worked and my McAfee again showed that my computer was protected. I ran a complete scan and it came up clean. I ran a Malwarebytes scan and it showed two instances of disabled protection in the registry. The tech at McAfee told me to run the stinger tool and I did that....restarted my computer and ran it again...I came up clean....Here is what I show in my Event Viewer: This is all kind of skeery...

I did these pics in Photobucket and after reading some things here yesterday about that, I was hesitant to do that, but I'm comfortable with the way it works....

Put the event viewer away an run the the scan below,

Use the Kaspersky Lab Online Scanner download from here click here

In Microsoft Windows Vista, you must open the Web browser using the Run as Administrator command. From the Desktop right click the icon to open the browser and choose Run as Administrator.
Â Click on SCAN NOW
Â Click Accept.
Â The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
Â Once the files have been downloaded locate the Scan Settingsand have it scan My Computer.
Â The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it finish.

When the scan is done, in the Scan is complete window, any infection is displayed.
There is no option to clean/disinfect, however, we need to analyze the information on the report.

To obtain the report:
Click on Save Report As
Â Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop.
Â In the File name area use KScan, or something similar.
Â In Save as type: click the drop arrow and select: Text file [*.txt]
Â Then, click: Save

Copy and paste the Kaspersky Online Scanner Report in your next reply.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

That's looking a lot like downy mildew. Look under leaves for signs of black/white moldy looking spots that may be present on some of the leaves. Avoid overhead/spray irrigation in the future if you're doing that currently. It's one of those things that you can't take care of easily once it's shown up...you have to be preventative and lower risk before it shows up.

Your photo shows the very typical symptom of virus I have seen and experienced in C. Tropicanna. The same can be said for most of our dark leaf cultivars. Depending on your growing conditions the symptoms may diminish as the season progresses. If you can isolate this plant you may find it will grow and bloom somewhat satisfactorily. You can see that the lower first leaf first showed symptoms and the newer and larger leaf shows the tell tail effect of the yellow green streaks and blotches that is not found in a healthy dark leaf cultivar. To the best of my knowledge, only a virus will produce these symptoms in a canna. Regards, Kent

Dear erandr1, I live in ny. the lilies i planted this year look exactly like yours. the ones that are next to them were established 4yrs ago & are very green. i think it's the weather. this happened to me before when i planted lilies in late may. i think they should be fine :) good luck .. jeanne

if it put it in quarantine you should be ok, most antivirus programs allow you to go to the chest and from there select delete. I would also run these 2 free programs to make sure you do not have anything else. SUPERAntiSpyware Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. Install them, update them then do the scans and let them clean up what they find. Also I would go and run this online scan too. FREE Online Virus Scan

That would be great.

Do you know what specific problem McAfee Tecs were looking for when they asked you to run the "Stinger Tool"?

That scan came up clean also...yes, I know what the techs were looking for, but I can't find it right now...it's late and it's dark in here....I'll look tomorrow and tell you...something about not letting me access McAfee sites and sending me to other sites that I wasn't intending to go to.

Summary: New variants of the FakeAlert-AZ Trojan are periodically released and can infect computers. This Trojan affects products from multiple security companies, including McAfee. McAfee has identified a solution to common variants of this threat.

Description
If your system is infected with this Trojan, your web browser and other Internet applications will be unable to access the intended website, and are instead redirected to unwanted websites or receive a page cannot be displayed error. These errors occur when you attempt to update or install McAfee Consumer products or access McAfee websites. The affected McAfee Consumer products include McAfee Total Protection, McAfee Internet Security Suite, and McAfee VirusScan Plus.

If you are a new customer and are trying to install McAfee software, the unwanted site may be displayed within the McAfee Download Manager window.

Existing customers may experience update failures, and will be unable to receive the latest Virus Definition (DAT) files.

FakeAlert-AZ changes user settings and installs programs that download Fake Security Products on a users machine.

So I guess your ok or you would have pops ups telling you to download a Fake Security product, and you are able to update McAfee now.

I would like to ask a question about Event Viewer I looked in mine this evening had 24 Error 10005 DCOM, I tried to install the the free Kaspersky scan it loaded ok and ran along time but when the report was to show I had a message to "click off microsoft pop-up" never could figure how to do that. I do have Active X and Adobe Flash Player off is that the reason for all the errors webpages are trying to load something I have off.

maybee had symptoms of an infection that's why I asked to run the Kaspersky scan not because of the event viewer information.

As far as this "Error 10005 DCOM", I have no clue what it is nor would I waste any time on it unless you have a specific problem with the computer.

"Error 10005 DCOM" Google it.

on event viewer if you double click directly on each of those flagged items it opens the information box giving the details of the error including codes that you can look up on google.
