I think I have a virus...HELP

has anyone had this to happen? ...Multiple boxes will pop up on screen with the identity of MS_Search..And you can click to close all of them except the last one...I ran a virus check on my norton and it showed nothing.. Restart computor and they will pop up aS SOON AS THE RESTARt is finished. No need to connect to a website. MY DIL Emailed a friend who worked for Microsoft and he sent 3 programs for her to try to kill it...NO LUCK.. did't work. anyone had this to happen?

This is not only all I have done. I have restored my computor to Mfg Condition. Still there!!!

What 3 programs were sent?
And could you post a HijackThis log from the link below.
Download Version 2.0.2 from the right side of the screen on the page in the link. Be sure to click on Installer to download to desktop. Once the HijackThis icon is on the desktop, Vista user's must RIGHT click and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.
Do a system scan only and save a log file please. Post the log file in your next post.

here are the directions for the malwarebytes free program you need to do that asap to try to get a start on the clean up. As stated you need to copy the log that will come up at the end of the malwarebytes cleaning process and post it here so we can see what the exact infection is.

Yes, GE Cafe matches much better, but having compared them side by side, the Samsung is much nicer and seems sturdier. Gets much better reviews as well. Samsung is at least a closer look than the Kitchen Aid fridge I first looked at. . . As for Bosch, I like the size of KA better, gets solid reviews, liked it in the store, and use one now that is terrific. Thanks!

The e-mail may or may not have a virus. It could be a false positive. Regarding AVG, do you have the automatic update disabled? Do you have the Link Scanner disabled? If yes to either or both it would produce the You May Not Be Protected report you cite. Are you on dial-up(DUN?) If yes and the automatic update is enabled, and AVG attempts to do a scheduled update when there is no DUN connection it will report a failure. Do complete the suggested online scans and attempt to update AVG. If it is updated then conduct a complete on-board scan. Just as an aside, I recently did a home service for a computer that was going off and on by itself. My service found nothing wrong with the computer. It was found to be a reoccurring failure (grounding) of one phase of the 220v coming into the house. Half of the breaker box would go out periodically and unannounced. The cause was a degraded main breaker directly after the meter and before the box. DA

I have the iPod, smaller than the iPad, just as useful. It uses WiFi through my home computer, no extra bill. I can also use its internet functions anywhere there is a hot spot. I can use all the apps, books, music, etc. without a connection. I use it dozens of times a day. One, I'm constantly listening to audio books...full length, unabridged, audio books. I have 91 loaded into it right not, more in the Apple page. I can purchase audio books on line, or I can put any of the audio CD books I own into the computer and download them into the iPod. I have a Kindle app, so if I have time to sit and read, I can use it. I also have the eBooks and iBooks apps for more reading. It came with a many-functions calander, contacts lists, clocks (world, alarm, timer), voice memo, calculator, more-than-acceptable camera, an unending note pad, a maps function that is better than my high-$ GPS, a Weather app...the list goes on and on. I have a full version Holy Bible, dictionary and theasaurs (be nice if I was using them right now, LOL) I am very busy, and alone, all day, every day. I have the iPod tucked into my running bra strap and an audio book going while I go about my chores and work. When I'm alone I don't have to wear the ear bud because I can hear the books fine. If I want to listen to music I pop it in the Bose docking station and the sounds are wonderful. I don't play games, but I do use it to surf the net when I'm in waiting rooms, etc. I also have a couple movies in it at all times. I can post to my forums, read news, check on anything. I know every store and restaurant in the area that has WiFi!!! It's an amazing tool.

This isn't that hard to figure out. Go to Staples and buy a several sheets of poster board. Put them up and overlap them to create the different sized squares and rectangles you are considering. Take a photo of each mock-up size. Which one looks more pleasing to the eye and fits the space best?

Sounds like Windows Desktop Search at first glance. Run MalwareBytes AntiMalware and CCleaner and see what you find out. Both work fine in Safe Mode if it comes to that.

Sounds good fedup321...Just be sure to UPDATE Malwarebytes (MBAM) before you run the scan and post it here along with the HijackThis (HjT) scan. Run MBAM first. Then HjT as I posted above.

Thanks All!! My son, who has been in computor work for 20 plus years, worked on this problem for about three hours this afternoon..He said he had never seen such a bugger. All the programs he tried did not work and did not show ANY problem with a virus.. All checked clear. The HijackThis (HjT) scan did not work nor did the cc scanner. The Malwareby- anti malware was running at the same time as the last one he tried which was SPYBOT-search and destroy 1.6.2 and that undoubtably did it..??? NO more of the pop up.. the Malware program scanned over 220,000 files took almost three to finish and showed 0 infections.The spybot only showed 1 cookie problem, but after it finished the window was gone.. For ever I hope..LOL

Thanks for letting us know. Though, I have never heard of 2 scans running at the same time without possible freez-up. We are here if you need us further.
