I think I have a virus...HELP

has anyone had this to happen? ...Multiple boxes will pop up on screen with the identity of MS_Search..And you can click to close all of them except the last one...I ran a virus check on my norton and it showed nothing.. Restart computor and they will pop up aS SOON AS THE RESTARt is finished. No need to connect to a website. MY DIL Emailed a friend who worked for Microsoft and he sent 3 programs for her to try to kill it...NO LUCK.. did't work. anyone had this to happen?

This is not only all I have done. I have restored my computor to Mfg Condition. Still there!!!

What 3 programs were sent?
And could you post a HijackThis log from the link below.
Download Version 2.0.2 from the right side of the screen on the page in the link. Be sure to click on Installer to download to desktop. Once the HijackThis icon is on the desktop, Vista user's must RIGHT click and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.
Do a system scan only and save a log file please. Post the log file in your next post.

here are the directions for the malwarebytes free program you need to do that asap to try to get a start on the clean up. As stated you need to copy the log that will come up at the end of the malwarebytes cleaning process and post it here so we can see what the exact infection is.

I'm in Anchorage, too. I've only been here 14 years though, so I've never experienced anything earlier than the 9/15 timeframe for frosts. Kim, if you ever get a red tomato which actually tastes like a tomato and wasn't grown in a greenhouse, publish the secret! I think just getting some orange is doing pretty well. Maybe the warm weather will keep up. It was darn chilly last week and when I went out a couple of nights ago I could see my breath. Not so bad last night after an 84 degree day. I've been trying all of these years with no luck. My largest fruit is probably two inches in diameter and I planted them in containers on the roof of my garage, which is my hottest spot. Our peppers just got blossoms two days ago. Sigh. I haven't had a decent tomato since I moved here. I may just have to put up a greenhouse. Gloria

I have the iPod, smaller than the iPad, just as useful. It uses WiFi through my home computer, no extra bill. I can also use its internet functions anywhere there is a hot spot. I can use all the apps, books, music, etc. without a connection. I use it dozens of times a day. One, I'm constantly listening to audio books...full length, unabridged, audio books. I have 91 loaded into it right not, more in the Apple page. I can purchase audio books on line, or I can put any of the audio CD books I own into the computer and download them into the iPod. I have a Kindle app, so if I have time to sit and read, I can use it. I also have the eBooks and iBooks apps for more reading. It came with a many-functions calander, contacts lists, clocks (world, alarm, timer), voice memo, calculator, more-than-acceptable camera, an unending note pad, a maps function that is better than my high-$ GPS, a Weather app...the list goes on and on. I have a full version Holy Bible, dictionary and theasaurs (be nice if I was using them right now, LOL) I am very busy, and alone, all day, every day. I have the iPod tucked into my running bra strap and an audio book going while I go about my chores and work. When I'm alone I don't have to wear the ear bud because I can hear the books fine. If I want to listen to music I pop it in the Bose docking station and the sounds are wonderful. I don't play games, but I do use it to surf the net when I'm in waiting rooms, etc. I also have a couple movies in it at all times. I can post to my forums, read news, check on anything. I know every store and restaurant in the area that has WiFi!!! It's an amazing tool.

Instant milk powder is a larger grain because it's puffed-up with air and is designed to be reconstituted in cold water - hence the INSTANT aspect. Non-instant requires warm/hot water to reconstitute. As Linda pointed out, that was the cause of your mixing problems. If a recipe calls for NON-instant powdered milk and all you have is INSTANT, you need to run the dry instant powder through a blender or food processor to make a fine powder BEFORE you measure it for a substitute for non-instant. There is just too much air in instant milk to use measure-for-measure for non-instant. Important to note... Because of so much air in instant dry milk, you may need as much as 50% more to equal the same amount as non-instant. So choose carefully and figure the amount of reconstituted milk each brand makes. It takes more instant milk than non-instant to make the same amount of milk. In my long history of using dry milk products exclusively (over 28-years) instant non-fat dry milk is rarely a bargain over non-instant because they never make as much reconstituted milk. Brands vary in taste, texture and what works in certain recipes the best, and because of that I keep 5 brands of dry milk and whey-based milk substitutes in storage (instant and non-instant). One brand of instant non-fat dry milk powder has nearly half the weight in a #10 can, and another 2/3 as much as my non-instant whey-based milk substitutes - so you nearly always get half as many servings with instant dry milk products than non-instant. If you are using powdered milk products with young children, you will want to include some dry whole milk products since children require the additional fat for brain development. -Grainlady

Sounds like Windows Desktop Search at first glance. Run MalwareBytes AntiMalware and CCleaner and see what you find out. Both work fine in Safe Mode if it comes to that.

Sounds good fedup321...Just be sure to UPDATE Malwarebytes (MBAM) before you run the scan and post it here along with the HijackThis (HjT) scan. Run MBAM first. Then HjT as I posted above.

I have an X-Mas party tonight myself.

Thanks All!! My son, who has been in computor work for 20 plus years, worked on this problem for about three hours this afternoon..He said he had never seen such a bugger. All the programs he tried did not work and did not show ANY problem with a virus.. All checked clear. The HijackThis (HjT) scan did not work nor did the cc scanner. The Malwareby- anti malware was running at the same time as the last one he tried which was SPYBOT-search and destroy 1.6.2 and that undoubtably did it..??? NO more of the pop up.. the Malware program scanned over 220,000 files took almost three to finish and showed 0 infections.The spybot only showed 1 cookie problem, but after it finished the window was gone.. For ever I hope..LOL

Thanks for letting us know. Though, I have never heard of 2 scans running at the same time without possible freez-up. We are here if you need us further.
