Pet backpacks.

I want to get my really big dog a backpack for our walks. It will hold her leash (she mostly walks off-leash with me, she is good with voice commands), her doody bags, and a fold-up water dish and a bottle of water on really hot days. She weighs 100 pounds plus. Does anyone have any experience with doggie backpacks? I can't find an extra large at the pet store, they only stock up to large.

I do , I do. My old Parker rest his soul wore a backpack all the time on his hospital and old folks home visiting. It never bothered him from day one in fact I think he liked it. I kept his toys in it and without a word of a lie he could reach around and pull a toy or ball out of the pack and hand it to people. Never trained him to do that he just started doing it. The awful thing is that any pictures of him wearing it are on my broken computer and I've lost them, the pc is thrashed.
Ben has one as well but I seldom put it on him. I'll take a pic

Aw, your dog is beautiful. Yes, backpacks are great idea for walks. They should at least be able to carry their own water, eh? This site has some pretty nice backpacks. All kinds. Even those cool kinds that carry water in the pack and a hose to dispense it. lol. They have Xlrg for dogs over 80 lbs. This one is nice because you can take the pack off when you stop and leave the harness part on.

We had keeshonds (now deceased and I miss them so) and used Metro Data Vac in tight spaces and Pro Team commercial backpack-type vacuums on our hardwood floors. The latter were recommended by our floor installer. Here is a link that might be useful: Here is one source.

This is what happens when 5 family members use a "basket system" for shoes....totally ridiculous!! We spend 5 minutes each morning searching for our shoes and invariably need to pull EVERY shoe out of the basket, then need to dump them all back in after you have the missing shoe. From Misc photos The photo above is because we are currently living at my mom's while we remodel and I have always had a mudroom with SHELVES or shoe racks for placing shoes in. I will have shelves under the cubbies for each child and not bins, for shoes. Flip flops can be stacked, boots can be placed side-by-side and any stray hats/caps/scarves can be hung on hooks along with jackets. I am not someone that can deal with clutter, so I will have a door on my mudroom so that it is not visible to anyone other than those who walk in through my garage or side door. Phones go in a central charging area so that the kids are not on the phone until all hours of the night--totally just my pet peeve and control issue :) The open locker/cubbies will have three hooks and a shelf above each one. Shelf can hold misc sports junk. Backpack sits on the bottom of the cubby (14" deep) and there's an extra 10" in front of that for sitting. If you are still in the framing stage, have the contractor fill in between the studs with wood at about the height you want the wall of hooks--that way no worries about hitting studs, just screw in anywhere along that line....you can put hooks every 6" or so and have as many as there's space for. Here is my hook wall in my mudroom: From Misc photos The other thing my kids will tell you is that about every other month I will freak out and yell and scream that, "The mud room is a disaster!!!" and make them put at least 1/2 of their stuff back in their rooms....eventually it gets dragged out again, but for a short while it looks fairly well organized :)

oceanbaby, re the white slipcovers...Oh yeah! I have slips on my f.R. sofa( not white). They aren't loose- shabby chic, and though I love switching them out ONCE A YEAR, it is a bit of chore. I'm guessing the white slipcover/upholstery folk with kids or dogs go my route: When not wearing slipcovers, I place a nice looking quilt on the seats, and remove it when I please. Otherwise,the dog's muddy feet(this is her one sofa) and kids spills could be tough to deal with. Without this device, on white, I'd need a maid to wash them weekly! caroleoh, not to start up "McMansion" talk again.... and I guess there have been many, though I've seen only a few....I really wish the expression was used vs. abused, before it loses all meaning. In most parts of the country a 5 million house would be a large custom built home, and other than a few places such as Ca., usually come with some land. A McMansion, refers to very large tract house. Though large, there are many of them, all the same...Mcmansion.

I avoid flying with airlines charging you to check a bag if I can. Mostly I only have 1 carry on except on longer trips where I do check my bag. All it seems to do is have more people have 2 large carry on's and then they end up pissy that they have to gate check their luggage, which also takes a lot of extra time in getting the plane loaded and going. I will also pay to have pre-assigned seats or to board up if I can. My daughter is now hitting the age where they won't seat us together, but she is nowhere near the point where she wants to sit away from her family and would freak out if she had to. I'm also becoming more worried about strangers in her space as she looks a little older than she is as well. We are also tall so will pay for more leg room. Just annoyed with all the changes of having to pay all the extra's, but often when we used to fly it was not planned far ahead so getting in a different cabin than economy isn't always an option. If work didn't cover it I would pay out of my own pocket. If you are far ahead in the planning process I find business or first class to be just slightly higher than the other options after you pay for all the upgrades. That said I'm also willing to rough it at times to teach my daughter some planning/savings. She won tickets to be in the audience for a Disney show that was filmed in LA (we live in TX) and only got to know about it 3 or 4 days ahead. So I said we could go and gave her a low budget. She found flights and a hotel below the budget and she said we can only bring a back-pack each with everything or we are over the budget. So we did it. It probably was our most nightmarish flight together, but only because of the circumstances with a storm delaying us into taking off 4 hrs late which meant we were so tired we slept on the plane, except the seats didn't recline at all - don't think any of them did, so our necks really hurt for the next 24 hrs, and we had to hear Baby shark playing over and over at the airport as well as on the plane by a toddler who did not want to sleep. 8hrs of baby shark was a little much. However it was a budget airline and I really appreciated their efficiency over most of the big ones I've flown with. Once we were asked to board, all were on in no time and ready for take-off. Been a long time since I've seen that efficiency. Also had very clear rules about the size of the carry-on and it was enforced and nobody got a bye. Oh I should say it wasn't JetBlue or Southwest which are also fairly good at being efficient, but this was faster than either of those, and much lower budget.

I have one like the one in the link, and my dog does just fine with it. It really is quick to get on/off, once it's adjusted, and she doesn't seem to mind at all.

We used to take our dogs backpacking back when we were younger and lived in Colorado. They were about 70 pound dogs and carried all their gear (leashes, water bowls, food, etc) as well as our beer!

I would try REI or Cabela's online for packs that large.

I checked out REI. We are members. The dog packs look very nice but are a lot more expensive than the one in Coconut's link. We are simple suburban walkers. Amazon has the other one. I'll take a pic when it comes.

Whew I finally got a pic of them..
Ben is wearing Parkers old backpack and little Pip is wearing Ben's.. Hand me downs I guess. LOL
Anyways this is the very first time Pip has had one put on just seconds before the snap and he didn't seem to mind at all.

He's obvlivious to it being on him and more interested in eating snow.
The only thing with these backpacks is you have to keep both sides weighted evenly otherwise they tend to slide down the heavier side.

Terri, he was 5 months last week. It's all happened so fast it seems now like I didn't get enough tiny puppy time at all. :(

Another thing you'll find when you get your dog his backpack is that he won't appear as threatening to those folks who are afraid of dogs just at the sight of them or even those are somewhat apprehensive. I found that with Parker in the hospital it made him much more approachable and even had a couple of woman who had been terrified of dogs eventually warm up to him.
