Well on me....THAT would really be tacky!! LOL!!

I just don't get the thong thing anyway...lots of friends of all ages and sizes swear by them though...to each her own!!

What bothers me is shopping for my 2 year old DGD and going into the childrenÂs department thinking I had gone into VictoriaÂs Secret by mistake. I was on a tirade showing DH the offensive things on the rack and saying that it looked like JCPenneyÂs was trying to dress little girls like prosti-tots when a young mother came around the corner holding her 3 year oldÂs hand and half a dozen thongs with various suggestive sayings on them. She stopped and gave me a dirty look.

Okay, that was off topic. Why I think that would be darlin'.

We were at a state competition for middle school kids last year and a parent (that we didn't know) bent over in front of us in the auditorium. Her jeans went down quite a bit in the back revealing her gold colored thong. They revealed so much that we could see it all of the way into her crack. This woman was not a cute little size 3 either, she was about a size 16! My son's teacher said "TMI", My DH shook his head and said "It looks like the Golden Arches -- some women just are not meant to wear those things!"

And there is a woman in our church who is sort of "outre"...I know of no other way to describe it, hair cut about an inch long strange clothes etc.....and she "helps with the artistic end of Christian ed"
One time around Christmas time she was squatting on the floor infront of the congregation, helping to direct the children's choir....and you could see not only a "tramp stamp" but also the upper portion of thong underwear.

I had an intern in her second year of college with a penchant for wearing low slung jeans and thongs and she told me the thong was SUPPOSED to show above the jeans. Ahem.

I told her if I saw the thong in the office one more time I was going to give her the wedgie of her life, just walk up behind her and give it a quick pull upward. HARD. I think she just stopped wearing underwear altogether, LOL.

You're right, though, colleen, I don't quite get the point of cartoon characters on thongs.

Mustangs, I absolutely agree, I've been offended in the girl's section more than once while shopping with Makayla. Bras for 5 year olds? Lacy skimpy underthings in a size 4 toddler? No wonder our teenagers dress like lapdancers, sheesh.

I was at my Dad's house once when his girlfriend called and left a message on the machine telling him to 'not forget his thongs'. I was horrified!!! Potentially scared for life. Thank goodness it turned out she was talking about flip flops - they were going camping!

Hehe - Maggie! Being about as old as your father, I would guess, and Ken even older than me with 3 grown kids who had to realize that their father had a life, LOL, not just as their Daddy, I can relate to that!

But I also relate to shopping for young children - I shop for granddaughters who are 15, 12, 8, 5, 2 and the one little baby boy doesn't really count yet. This past Christmas I was truly appalled at some of the trashy clothes - and (as evidenced by my comments to Maggie) I do not think I am a prude at all. But the clothes were really offensive (thanks Annie - great word).

I don't get the whole concept of thongs in general. Don't get me started on low slung pants--I already posted my "pant rant" a while back.

I do understand thongs, i just don't care that much. I used to work selling women's clothing and thongs are intended for pants that you can see the imprint of your panties through. However some women wear them with everything. One friend said that all her underwear rides up and gives her a wedgie anyway so she wants less fabric involved. LOL. I for one stopped having that problem when I went up in sizes.

There was one woman who shopped at the store I worked at who enjoyed others seeing her thong. I assume this anyway, otherwise she might have closed the fitting room door occasionally.

Girls clothing makes me so grateful I have boys. I have waited on customers who complain that it is really hard to find non slutty clothing above size 3 for girls. Mustangs, to the woman in the department store who gave you a dirty look for speaking the truth, "If the shoe fits, kick yourself with it." Prosti-tots is a great word btw.

Snoopy on a thong is pretty tacky, but not as bad as the display of women's things with mens names on the front. There were some really obscure names that you never find on ma pencil or mug etc, (Louis, Jesus, Javier...)

As to low slung pants on boys, when I was shopping for men's PJs in K-Mart I saw jeans with a sewn on strip made to look like underwear sticking out of the top. I know this is the "prison look" and supposed to make these boys look like real tough guys, but what it makes them look like IMNSHO is losers! Only the losers _get caught_ and end up in prison. Decent people and successful criminals don't.

I find the sexualization of children with such inappropriate clothing so disturbing! Bras for 4 yr. olds is just wrong.

Maggie's story reminds me of one I heard on the radio where a high school girl called her father from school and asked him to bring her a spare G-string. After he recovered from the shock she explained it was for her cello...
