Pasting Rich Text

Hello,

I've begun relying more on webmail for doing my email, instead of an email client like OE. But, since I'm on dial-up, I tend to compose longer emails offline in Wordpad or (a new one I'm trying) Jarte. I compose the document/email as rich text (bold, italics, etc.) hoping to copy-and-paste it in the compose window of my webmail client (Fastmail, EuMX or whatever). But I always lose the rich text formatting when pasting, and I end up having to do all of that over again in the webmail client ! >:-(

I vaguely remember successfully pasting a rich text email in some webmail compose window a while back without loss of formatting, but I can't remember which email account it was or how I did it.

So my question: is there a way to paste (not merely attach) a rich text message in a webmail client's compose window w/o loss of formatting (bold, underlining, etc.) ?

Oh, I should mention that I'm using Windows XP SP2, and I *do* make sure that on my webmail I'm composing in html (not plain text).

fwiw. using Vista

I just tested Wordpad with some plain and optional fonts along with mixed color text, italics, bold and probably something called gibberish - and Hotmail/mail.live.com copy/pastes to as matching rich text or html.

They sent the wrong color part because they keyed in wrong model number. so we got part for black range, not SS. They said they would send out correct one but never did. My husband has spent YEARS (it seems) on hold trying to get them to send out SS part with numbers on it. Finally got someone who knew what they were doing to talk to him today. Had to practically begin process all over again but they saw their error and say they will send out SS part. Hope so…but who knows? If they would only send out new set of decals for these appliances it would be far easier and less expensive for LG. I’d be willing to pay for a couple sets since my range is only 7 months old. Since I did not scrub the numbers on my range to begin with, the new part may not hold up either. Doubt water alone will remove grease spots or spatters. :(

eld I think you did the right thing -you did what your heart told you to do you probably don't phone her often-so maybe felt less natural to phone yes maybe a card is the right way to go-but depends on one's culture and what one's used to do..it'd be the last thing to come to me, to send a card, upon hearing someone's devastating diagnosis. I'd feel an impulse to react-and it might be that would take me time to think about a card even. you did what felt right to you in the moment. she also did what felt right to her in the moment-which was probably doing nothing as she's so distraught yes I'd probably text very fast "thanks" as I'm almost always answering.. but who knows what we'd really do, under circumstances such and such you texted as you felt strongly and your thoughts were with her, and that's what you did. and she is in the state it's hard for her to answer..maybe to talk in any manner, whatever it might be. I must add-I don't really like talking on the phone(with few exceptions), or texting, or Skyping, or many other things I do appreciate people's kindness in whatever form it comes. I don't expect it to be tailored to me. They do what they feel right at the moment. I'm kinda sure she does too these are all details, hard to get them perfectly right. Nothing is right about this situation. It's devastating, and rarely one can say something that's more than a sign of "I'm with you". And whoever's going through this, he understands it, and he doesn't expect more, or less, or differently, or..He knows. Or so I think. I lost somebody dear to me recently. I was so ...in short I wrote about it to some friends. I had to put it in words somehow, to stop sobbing, Nobody but one answered anything at all. It's okay. What could have they said? They were there to read. Maybe. And writing helped. whatever you did was fine, whatever she did not was fine too-even though it left you with this sense of maybe you offended her or something you didn't. she knows. I hope her daughter beats the disease I hate with all my guts, and its gloomy statistics and..whatever you wish for them I wish and hope, and yes, pray-because that's what people do sometimes, it's about the intention, and we all have our ways to express it. Spanish. hugs.. (see, even writing here-I feel it's all silly and inadequate. What can you do. You word something-you loose something. with a slight hope others will get the sign. of your intention)

For the last 4 days I've gotten one around 8:30 am, asking "did you see my last text?" "Dont (sic) mean to be a bother, I wanted to see if there is a better time I could check back with you?" "Hi again, just checking back a third time to see what feedback you had." The area code is nearby, but that doesn't mean anything. They all went right to my spam folder, so I trust that they are, indeed, spam.

Do you have an iPhone? If so, try to text using that. If you have the same problem, it could be an issue with your friends' accounts rather than something specific to the iMac or its operating system.

Thanks for the response.

I decided to try my "Live" account again. But it still didn't work. It lost all formatting and came out looking like plain text. Grrrr....

FWIW, I'm using the Classic interface (because of my slower, dial-up connection). Perhaps this is something Live allows/does in the "full version" ? I'll see if I can try it.

I use the cheap version of @hotmail... to me its old school - hate change... and faster too.

Save as... temp.rtf before doing the copy/paste ?
..so it knows the text is .rtf and not txt, unicode doc or some other format.

I use Juno email. It's free. You can compose off-line directly in the email program. You don't even have to an ISP (other than free Juno). When you hit send, it will automatically dial up, get and receive mail, then automatically close the connection to the internet.

Reading and writing is so much simpler and faster, and with a larger work screen too.

Hi ! Thanks for the additional responses !

@mikie: My "live" address is free, so if that's what you mean by "cheap".... I don't like paying for email. ;-)

Also, the files/messages are being saved as .rtf fiiles. But I think I found the real problem (thanks to someone's observation elsewhere): the webmail compose screens are set to compose html emails, true. But rich text (a la Wordpad) is not quite the same. Apparently, I need to compose a message in an HTML editor (like Word or Kompozer) in order for a copy-and-paste maneuver to work with a webmail compose page. Fortunately, I use Seamonkey as my browser, which has a built in composer I learned I can use for the purpose ! :-) So, my situation is basically resolved.

@leftwood: Actually, I'm trying to avoid using an offline email client just to avoid some steps. Since I like using webmail interfaces in my various accounts, I like the simplicity of just opening a program for writing a document, rather than opening a whole email program and then going into "compose."

But, yes, I had Juno once -- seems like ages ago. I started with it, in fact. I liked it. I had the pay service ("free" was too slow). And I liked the built in email client -- based on Outlook Express. But the pic you show above.... isn't that from an eariler version of Juno long since discontinued ? I thought they eliminated the whole browser-email client combo half a dozen years ago (with version 7.0 or something), even thought they (temporarily ?) supported those using the earlier, fuller software versions (like 5.33). Did they bring it back ?

I also use a different ISP than Juno for the web. In fact I haven't tried getting on the web via Juno for several years. As to version, all I can tell you is that I am pretty sure version 5.0 it is the most current one I can use with WinMe.
