Thoughts?

There are a couple of things I like better about the Monogram: the flat burners, the temperature probe, proofing mode and timer.

What I like about the Electrolux: good reviews on GW, big oven, price. I really really don't like the burners on the Elux - they stick up and out and just seem very intrusive. I much prefer the flat table-top appearance of the GE.

I kind of feel like for the $$, Elux Icon Pro is the way to go. Any of have .02 to share?

I think the elux icon is sure a piece if eye candy!
For me, it came down to icon vs wolf.

I was looking at the Icon Pro too but dislike the vertical grates. Is that what you are talking about? The rest of the styling is great, but those look so strange/cheap to me.

I'm curious how you narrowed it down to these two. We have been looking for a solid mid-range gas range but the mid-range seems almost the same price as the high-end and I've been flip-flopping. I like the look of the Monogram but have read such bad things about GE on this forum that I ruled them out (and they don't seem less than Wolf, Blue Star, Capital which lead the polls here).

If you follow the feedback on this forum, it seems overall Electrolux is the favored product of the two.

Ahh....Now I feel like I wasn't crazy when looking at ovens. I was looking for depth and crossed off the Electrolux ICON for its lack thereof. An inch and a half can make a lot of difference with the number and size of pans we like to fit in an oven. In hindsight, I may have put too much weight on that factor, but I was beginning to think I'd imagined the difference. Gary, does yours measure deeper, because I thought we'd decided that your oven and my Monogram were pretty close in depth, which was making me think I'd lost my mind somehow when measuring oven interiors. Time4tea, I had seriously considered Bosch, but the current models are brand new for them...Made differently and in a different plant, if I remember correctly. There are a lot more electronics and features than they've offered before. Maybe all great, but I hesitate to buy the first of any completely new attempt. No one I talked to that sold them could feel very confident in recommending them with the lack of history, and the BSH reputation for less than stellar customer service. This isn't any practical experience to share with you, and I'm not the person you were asking, but only my particular thought process in Xing the Bosch off my list.

andiswife-I have a GE Cafe dual fuel range, and I love it. It has a huge oven and I have not had any problems with any of the burners. Yes, there is an oven fan that comes on, but to me anyway, it not that annoying, and it has never blown out the back burners. This range also sat in my garage for over 1 year before it was installed and it has always worked perfectly. I love the power boil and it simmers and I truly mean simmers. The thing with the griddle is that to use the griddle, you have to take off the grate. I tried to cook on the griddle with the grate on and I did take forever and did not heat up very well, but once I read the owners manual and it said to take off the grate, it was perfect. I have seen on this forum and on the kitchen forum complaints and boasting about every appliance manufacturer, so I guess you should just take everything with a grain of salt. Yes, I would buy a GE Cafe range again. I also purchased the GE Cafe vent hood, and I must say it is very quiet on low and med low. Does start to get loud on med hi and hi. Just my opinion.

I work for Monogram and can answer your question and point out some of the selling points for the ZET1. First, Electrolux does NOT make the ZET1 or any Monogram product. The ZET1 is made by Monogram. Here are some of the selling points for the Monogram ZET1. 1. The ZET1 comes with three racks on full extension glides. These racks are also self clean...meaning you can leave them in the oven during the self-clean mode. This is a Monogram exclusive feature. 2. The ZET1 has two light columns containing 3 halogen lights each to provide direct light to all levels. 3. Capacity is 4.4 cubic feet using the AHAM (Assoc. of Home Appliance Manufacturers) methodology for measuring oven capacity. This is one of the largest in the industry. 4. ZET1 has European convection with a reversing fan. The fan blade on the convection fan is specially engineered to reverse directions periodically to provide more even heat distribution throughout the oven cavity. An additional benefit is that you do not have to turn the food during cooking as is typically required with most convection ovens. 5. Preheat time to 350 degrees is approximately 8 1/2 minutes which is faster than any oven with a hidden bake element that I know of. 6. In addition to the appearance, many people like knobs because they are quite simple to use/program. You turn one knob to select cooking mode, the other to select the temperature and press start. I do not know much about the Electrolux oven. I'm sure it's a fine oven. I do know that the ZET1 is a very popular oven that is highly regarded in the industry. Both Wolf and Electrolux have issues with the blue porcelain. And its a really big oops on the Wolf. Electrolux seems to have resolved their issues with blue porcelain as there are not any complaints from recent ovens. Wolf still has ongoing issues, but the repair will now be easier with the bottom as a separate piece. Search blue porcelain in this forum to read about this. Looking at cubic feet or even the depth and width of the oven can be misleading. In looking at oven size, measure the rack to see what the usable space would be and then see how your pans will fit. Look at how the convection fan takes up space in the oven. Some have the fan sticking out into the oven cavity, which might allow for a handle of a pan to hang over a rack edge. Others place a wall across the front of the fan so they can say the back of the oven is flat. Some examples Wolf Electrolux The new Wolf ovens seem to be blue. Different fans! Wolf M series illustration Wolf M series photo Also look at where the racks are and how they can be used. On Elux, at least mine, the rolling rack cannot be put on the lowest position. The regular rack can be placed there. The best feature of the Wolf is the dual fans/elements. I think that is more significant in the 36 inch width though. Whatever you buy, get the longest extended warranty you can get.

After all the angst, reading, etc., we bought a DF range GE Monogram. Love it. No problems. There are negative posts for all the mfg, and our appliances are a mix, but for ovens, the GE has worked exactly as we wished.

Actually, GE has always made pretty good ranges. It's the other kitchen appliances they produce which are terrible. Their DWs, for example, are awful. I had one that couldn't clean worth a darn, but refused to die! I was sooooo happy when I finally got rid of it.

Thanks for the feedback. I searched the forum for reviews of GE Monogram ranges and didn't find much negative feedback. And that which I did find was from several years ago; I believe GE has since revamped their ranges.

Sorry but the 2011 GE Monogram DF 36" with griddle is sadly part of the total GE Monogram total package we bought for our kitchen...grease fire because of grease draining under griddle accumulating by flames. Photos I sent to GE Monogram case worker Dawn said "the engineer said this amount of grease is normal and safe." Seriously?!? I'm not even going into the problem with too hot to touch wall oven door & second repair to refrigerated side of 48" side by side that ranges between 22-27 degrees thus freezing contents. GE repair tech said "too bad you bought 2011 & not 2012 because the newer ones are made in US not China like yours. " nice, huh?!?

Ugh, SatsyNana. That stinks. One of the reasons I considered the GE monogram was that I was told that it was revamped and is now made in the USA. Sorry you've had such trouble.
