When you send documents out from Word (or pics from MS pics) they default to Outlook Express as the email sending program. So if you haven't already, you need to set up OE according to your internet providers guidelines. That's why it's saying server down...check mail settings, etc. It wants you to set up OE.

Are you attempting to send the .doc through the Word application, through Outlook/OE, an alternative onboard e-mail application, or an on-line e-mail service?

Sorry for the delay. Cablevision is my internet carrier - and I access the internet through Optimum (have phone, tv and on line service with Optimum. When I send and receive emails my address would be: .....@optonline.net. I received an email with an attachment which I opened and I then in turn sent it to Microsoft Word to make some changes - which I did - but then couldn't send it back to my email address and/or to the person who sent it to me Thanks.

try saving your document as normal in word with save as and store the document on your pc. Then go to your email either a new email or the one you are replying to, click attach file, browse to the location on your pc that you have stored the saved document file and select it for attachment to the email.
The document should then be attached to your email which you can then send.
