Mikie you seem to be partly right. I have Windows 7 and Office 2007 and Wordpad will open my .docx files. After your post I tried opening my older .doc files and you are correct they open as gibberish. While I am alone in the wilderness I still feel more people should save in RTF format to get away from being tied to MS. I have a neighbour looking for work and often he cannot submit a resume as requested in Word format as he has a Mac so he was coming here to submit. I created his resume in RTF and now his Mac Pages program accepts that and so do the companies where he has applied so far.

I teach in a very large high school. I am not the first to have the computer, and I think someone set the default to do this, but I cannot find a default that would indent like that. Would you happen to know where a default is that would cause something like this to happen? Or even tell me exactly what I do to just make it number the way it should for one paper? I have done it before, but more often than not, I have messed up the entire paper. Those rare times when it puts everything in order, I am not sure what I hit.

Open Word, click Tools at the top of the screen, Click Options in the drop down menu. If the 'View' page is not on the top click the 'View' tab it to bring it on top. Now look down the left side to the second set of choices named 'Formatting marks'. Yours should have a tick in the 'Spaces' and 'Paragraph marks'. Click on each mark to remove it then click OK and you should be good to go.

Have you considered changing fonts? Some of the fonts are smaller, no matter what size you set them to be. With regard to it printing near the middle of the page, have you checked the margins? Orientation (portrait vs. landscape)? Under Format, check your page setup, etc. If you need more assistance, just holler. I don't have WordPerfect 12, but I have 8, 10, X3 and X4, so the basic operations should be similar. If you have a sample page of what you are trying to do, you can e-mail it to me and I'll see if I can figure out what's happening. It's probably something very simple--the trick is finding that something.
