Many retail outlets are indicating that it has been discontinued by the manufacturer. We have had several products like Calypso and Tourismo that were discontinued by the manufacturer, yet we were still able to get the product from distributors and the manufacturer was still listing it until all supplies had been exhausted. Check some online listings for Spectracide Triazicide and you will see that many indicate that it has been discontinued. It may also be that Spectracide has discontinued only certain sizes. Because of the whole bee toxicity thing, many products are seeing a major slowdown in retail sales and those products are being discontinued in conjunction with their lack of sales in the retail market.. I know that Bonide has completely changed the chemistry of its Fruit Tree Spray because of the phase out of carbaryl. It used to contain Captan 12%, Malathion 6%, Carbaryl .3% and a spreader sticker. Now it has a new name of Fruit Tree & Plant Guard and contains Lambda-Cyhalothrin .05%, Pyraclostrobin 3.06% and Boscalid 5,622%, yet Bonide still shows their Fruit Tree Spray listed on their web site. They discontinued the Fruit Tree Spray last year. I only know because I went to college with the regional sales rep and he told me last spring that they had discontinues it.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the wisteria is of the native variety. We never planted it at my grandmother's house, as we've owned the lot for decades and it was just an empty wooded lot 10 or so years ago. The wisteria has been there for years, and the vines and flowers are small and not very prolific. I'm not sure if my great grandfather tossed something into the area years ago, or if someone neighbor secretly planted them there or what, but they haven't been a problem yet. I'm quite sure I won't have any issue with the Albizia's. Can't remember if I mentioned it before, but I talked to a person on my street who has a large Albizia in their yard, and they said they didn't have problems with it. If mine survive the winter inside, I plan to plant them in the yard or on the outskirts of the field, both of which are mowed multiple times a year. We have acres of thick forest surrounding all the fields as well, and if I've read correctly, Albizias need full sun and will die if placed under a larger tree. They should be well contained if any seeds happen to escape, and any seedlings spreading by the tree's roots will be promptly mowed down. I know about how much invasive species suck, so I am being careful with anything potentially invasive. We have Asiatic bittersweet growing rampant around here. I try to hack some down from around the yard, but with half of our 50 acres being forest surrounding field, there's a lot of the bittersweet around the edges of the woods. I'll have to look into Kentucky coffeetrees and yellowwood. I was thinking about the coffeetrees the other day, but I've never seen them growing around here. Will they grow out of their range when planted as ornamentals? I'm planning on starting the eastern redbud seeds and maybe a few of the acacia today.

Aside from a simple database, IMO anybody who gets serious at all about Lepidoptera ought to be keeping a journal (field, rearing, etc). Catch the moment sort of thing (rather than from memory later), with impressions about what you see and questions you want to pursue answers to. Notes about habitat, weather, plant or Lep charcteristics or associations for example - or hunreds of other things that you will want to remember years later. Drawings also add alot to them, help with determinations and if you're a resercher out in the wilds like I was (not just your back yard) then simple maps or GPS coordinates are also a plus to find that same patch of earth again if you choose to. Your journals would be invauable to you later to refer back to, and over time will contain a massive account of your knowledge gained. I have my journals going back over four decades that can always be refered to as the old memory fades. Mine can be quite enjoyable to just leaf through and remember all those experiences, the new discoveries made, new people and new places that Lepidoptera took me and my family to. Same with my synoptic collection... looking at a specimen and reading its label often reminds me of not only the circumstances, but often actually collecting the specimen. Computers are fine as far as they go, but a journal can be carried with you anywhere you are and become the story of your lifes work with Lepidoptera. FWIW Larry

One foot of difference is not really that much, and can vary year to year... 3 feet versus 6 feet really matters when planning a tiered garden.
