I have McAfee on one of my xp boxes because it is free with my verizon but I am in the process of changing to one of the free ones too just because I need to thin down that machine and McAfee is too large. I am going with Avast this time, the new AVG 8 has had a lot of issues so want to wait on that one till they get it all worked out. Avast is a very good program and many people moved to it that left AVG. If you go to the Avast link for download you can look over on the left they have 2 very good informative pdf manuals that give detailed install and use directions. avast! 4 Home Edition it is free but you do have to do a registration which is very simple and explained on the site.

Hi michael_so_fl, Are you in Desktop mode ?? Java will only work in Desktop mode in Windows 8 not in Start screen. Microsoft Windows 8 does not support plug-ins in the Start screen and therefore Java will not run in the Start screen. You will have to switch to the Desktop screen to run Java. Joe

I always would have liked to learn how to play bridge but it never happened. I remember I was at a card party a few years ago that the American Legion Auxillary had put on. We were playing Whist and I had such good cards. One of the ladies asked me if I played bridge and I said No. She said it was probably a good thing. They have whist club in the next town over. I always thought I would like to join that. When my husband and I started dating, we spent a lot of time with his parents playing a game called MADDOG. It is a lot like Canasta but it is played with 4 decks of cards and usually takes about 3 hours to play one game. I remember on holidays right after we were done eating he would say "get the table cleaned off" he was ready to play. Dhs DS and DBIL were both really good card players too. They would go to the Moose club 2 a week to play cards in a tournament. We also played cards with them a lot too. I remember I was playing cards with DH and his parents on my 21st birthday thats how I celebrated it.

Marilyn_Sue, As Adellabella and Jasdip said, it's now a two step process. You put your e-mail address in, press enter, then your password. I just hope it doesn't go like Google. I have a work account at Gmail and they put cookies in to force you to have a single sign in, but I don't want to be signed in as work on my personal stuff. It's too much trouble to delete the cookie, every time, so I only check my work e-mail on my iPad. Which is very inconvenient. I sometimes have to work on Google docs on the computer, and then I have to deal with the whole thing. I don't know what people who share a computer do! Yahoo just offered to do a similar combined inbox thing, but it seems to be voluntary. So far. After you sign in, it may prompt you to add a cell phone number. In little blue letters, there's a "skip for now", which you can keep on skipping. At which point, it might dump you on the Yahoo home page. Mail is in the upper right hand corner, an envelope icon with a red bug saying how many new e-mails you have. Jasdip, As to the length of time to draw an e-mail, it's probably a bandwidth issue, especially if you're getting HTML videos with a lot of visual information, rather than text. It can multiply if your computer is older and your display is slower. If it's taking a lot longer to draw than a web page you haven't seen before, it might also be advertising. Remember those awful advertising experiments that they did on us at GW? Sometimes even if you have an ad blocker, you have to wait while the ad doesn't load!
