Odd copy/paste problem

In the last week I've had problems copying and pasting. When I go to paste, nothing had copied.

I've used a computer for years, I know how to do it, it just isn't working randomly. I know some websites can block you from doing this but I don't think everything I tried to copy and paste could be blocked.

I tried to paste several web URLS from my browser address bar to a post on a message board both using their form similar to what we have here on That Home Site and just pasting into the box.

I also tried copying some html from a website help board and pasting it to Practice Board and it wouldn't work either. Several others had already done so and commented on it so I know it wasn't blocked.

Weird.

Have you tried using the keyboard.
CTRL+C: Copy
CTRL+V: Paste

I tried it just now when the mouse right click would not work and it did work.

Could there be a setting in Spybot Search and Destroy that I am missing that is blocking right clicks on websites?

I just updated and the trouble started afterwards.

Well I'm in safe mode now and can copy and paste. The other day I added an add-on and I don't know what the name of it was, or how to find out what it was or how to just diable it or delete it once I find it. I'm thinking it is 'smart' something. I noticed that when I was surfing Garden Web that when I got toward the bottom of the page one list of threads that I could scroll on down and read pages 2,3,4, etc. Additionally whenever I would highlight something to either copy or do choose doing a Google search, there was a small box that came up at the end of the highlighted material, and it had 4 icons in it. I think they might have been for Twitter or Facebook or some other silly stuff I don't do. Help please...Suggestions? Sue

Without spending a fair bit of time, even an advanced PC user is not usually able to distinguish between advisable and inadvisable updates. An intermediate or beginning level user may not even understand the issues addressed in a particular update, much less have knowledge to determine a thoughtful course of action. Program update release decisions are made by people with the knowledge and understanding to know when changes should be pushed out. I leave those decisions to them and never give it another thought. Mistakes are made, yes, that's what the restore function is for. I rarely need to use it. Yes, and others have said, to each his own decision. But in doing so, don't fool yourself into thinking that you know more about it than you do and that you're accomplishing anything. If you resist the update a dozen times and then tire of the message and give it the go-ahead, you've really accomplished nothing but to delay what might have been an important update.

"Yes, it works in word or outlook, but try to paste it in a message on the forum or an email. It has something to do with html. I don't pretend to understand but seems to be a known problem." Some forums don't let you paste images directly into them. For those, you need to upload an image to a hosting site like photobucket or imageshack and link to the image in the forum. I'm not sure I understand how pasting in email is different from pasting in outlook, since outlook is an email client.

To me it suggests the mouse is the problem since the computer will copy and paste.

It is getting up there in years for a mouse. A least five. It is a Logitech cordless optical mouse with fully charged batteries. I haven't noticed any other right click functions not working....I know it is weird.

Two suggestions:
1. The next time there is a problem, disconnect the mouse receiver (I assume it's USB) and then plug it back in and try the same operation again.
2. Go into your mouse properties and see if the buttons are all set to the functions you want; even if they seem ok, it might be good to change the properties and then change them back and apply the settings again. Occasionally my 4-button Logitech wireless wheel mouse "forgets" what it's set for (like the button over the wheel, which I have set to "close," but which sometimes doesn't work).

You are not alone. I have noticed a similar random problem on my 2-yr old Logitech Wireless when I try to copy from some applications and then paste onto a different one. I use the mouse to highlight only and then use CTRL C and V. Weird, hu? I will try the properties suggestion to see if the prob goes away. But it is very rare and infrequent for me, like once every two weeks or more.

It just started for me. It doesn't happen every time. I'll try the suggestions.

I got bitten by a case of 'weird" recently. I was using the mouse and it died a slow death. In other words it just slowed down to the point of not moving over a period of about 10 minuites. Nothing would bring it back to life. Replaced and cured the problem.
