When composing your email, at the top you should see where it says, "attach a file".

Click on that and a small screen will open to all of your folders.

Go to the folder that has your picture in it, click on the picture that you want to send and that picture will be seen in the email by the person that you have sent it to.

You yourself wont see the picture .. unless you send it to yourself. 8)

Try That .. Practice by sending yourself an email or two!

Justme4now, I want to copy/paste an image from the internet. I know how to do it from my hard drive, but I am hoping to be able to skip the steps of saving it to my hard drive and getting it from there.

Bob414,I do have the "inserting images" enabled in labs but the image still doesn't load via url. Does it work for you?

For a picture on the internet .. you have two choices:
You can copy and paste the url of the picture itself into the body of the email which will be click-able to whomever you send it to, or .. You HAVE to get the url and save it to your pc.

To do either .. left click on the image and then click on "Open Image".

Doing this will show the image url in your address bar.

Copy and paste that url into the body of your email. (In Gmail, there is a link button for doing this.

To save the image on your hard drive: Same process .. Left click on image, click on "Save Image As" and save it to one of your folders.

Once that is done, you can use the gmail "attach a file" tool to embed the image into the email from your hard drive/folder.

Yes it works for me. I haven't tried an online image like justformenow describes but when I get to the point in the email where I want to insert the picture I click on the insert image icon on the tool bar at the bottom of the email and in the dialog box that opens I navigate to the picture I want to insert and click on it to select it then click open and it inserts.

I only use Gmail and Thunderbird so I don't know much about other email providers but I suspect that most of them have an "attach file" in them.

Some may be called "attach image".

You'll just have to look around.

BTW: "Attach Image/file" is not the same as "attach/add a link".

I'm sorry, I'm not making myself clear. I'm wondering if I can highlight an image from a web page, copy it (right click/copy) and paste (right click/paste) an image into GMail the very same way I can do it in Thunderbird. I'm trying to avoid having to save the image to a directory and then retrieve it to post it in an email. Does that make sense? I may be asking for something that isn't supported in any way by Gmail. :)

bob14, I might be misunderstanding GMail, but in my version there appears to be an alternative way to insert an image as long as I have enabled "insert image" in the labs (which I've done). According to the instructions I should be able to click on the "insert image" icon, click on "web address URL" and paste the URL of the image. The image should, then, show up in the email. That's what I'm not able to get to work correctly.

Now I know what you want and I am afraid that the answer is no.

As far as I know .. you can only insert images directly into Gmail, using the two ways as I explained above.

My question for you then is: Why not just use Thunderbird to send the photos with it set as Gmail.

Gmail will be the primary mailer/receiver?

(Not sure that I am being clear?)

Example: When I use Thunderbird .. I can send messages, just as if they are being sent from gmail .. (Gmail address and all)

I can change the settings in Thunderbird to reflect my mail as coming from any number of email accounts that I have.

This would solve your photo pasting problem.

justme4now...Yes, you're clear. I could use Thunderbird but I like some of the features of Gmail that aren't available with T-bird. It's all just a trade off, isn't it!
