The villages are finally done

It is amazing how everyones villages are so different yet each one so special in its own right. I absolutely loved Jane's husbands village and will use a lotof his techniques next year and the ones posted before that. Each one has something to draw from - I tend to have more of a rural/country setting with a very small town. I think that comes from being a country girl at heart. Mine is also a mix of many village makers - if I like a building I buy it - Enjoy a trip through the country .....

Very nice Lynn ! I tend to like the "country" settings myself and I also just buy whatever house,etc. that appeals to me. My BF likes trains, so several years ago we built a shelf all the way around our office at home. I'm thinking of doing the same thing next year..maybe in the LR..and putting my village up all the way around the room. It'll keep it safe from little hands that way too..lol.

Oh wow Lynn. what a great job on your 'Country Setting'. I love the quaint little village. Yours could be in the 'burbs' from DH's town!! lol. You have many bustling things happening, and many impressive buildings. I esp love that solarium. I can see you've put in lots of time and laid everything out beautifully. Did you lay that brick path seperately or does it come w/one of the displays? It's a nice touch. You're right everyone's villages are so different and it's nice to see that. Like you, I keep going back and forth to look at more of what you did. I showed Dh, and he was impressed w/your layout and buildings. And said..'ahh..now she knows what it's all about in setting it up...she did a nice job' !
Dh does the same...he buys what he 'falls in love with'! I guess it has to catch your eye/heart, and then you manage to fit it in. Love what you did..

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. This village is a link to my past with my husband of 38years who I lost in 2003 to cancer. We always had a massive train layout at Christmas with most of these houses as part of that. He did all the train stuff and I did all the landscaping and village. I have since remarried and bless his heart my husband encourages me to carry on the tradition. My children have the trains and carry on their daddys love for trains and I have my village - it is the best of both worlds....Peace and Merry Christmas to all of you..... Lynne

Builder wants final payment before house is done

I feel like I've been to battle. A three hour meeting hashing out change orders that had been agreed upon and misc. bills that I had never seen before. Thank god we have an airtight contract. All sorts of things cropped up- the plumber submitted a bill for a well pump which was 4x the amount quoted, the excavator threw in 17k in extra charges for good measure and the builder told me they were going to have a hard time with a few lien releases. I knew that was coming as I'd heard through the grape vine that some of the subs hadn't been paid. Plumber threw a fit when he found out we were going to hold 5k until he fixed the water problems. Our well pump (Grundfos) has been spontaneously shutting off once every two weeks or so. I think that is how we ended up with a well pump bill way out of line with the quote.... Anyway- it's better to hear about these issues before we make a final payment. I can't wait to wrap this all up and just enjoy our new home!

wondery, Most of my upper cabinets are 33", but some (over the MW and frig) are less. Clearly this is a subjective decision. I delayed deciding until my cabinets were installed, and then mocked up the handles so I could see what it would look like. (I used silver ribbon stuck on with double sided tape.) The 10" mostly was determined by the shortest cabinet - over the frig. I thought about having "full height" pulls, but I realized I couldn't do that and have them line up and look right. They only come in certain lengths, so you can't get exactly the right length to go from top to bottom of every cabinet and both start and end at a consistent place. So I decided to go for a single length for all the vertical ones, except for the pantries, where that didn't seem workable, so I made an exception for them. But ultimately you have to do what works for you, so I encourage mocking it up. You might be able to do it electronically on a rendering of your design. Or you can procrastinate like I did. Once I ordered my pulls it took about a week for them to arrive. But three of them came in the wrong length and it took several more days to get the right ones. So give yourself enough time.

Thanks @Dream, I am loving it so far! Extremely functional, went moderate on appliances and spent a little more to get the functionality things I wanted (2 tier cutlery drawer, lower lazy Susan to avoid dead corner [which holds every appliance I own], roll out bottom trays). I think it was all worth it, its so easy to use. I've forgot to mention this earlier but I have been VERY happy with my Woodland Cabinets (Artizan line). About 6 months post-remodel and have had no issues at all. The faucet (Moen Indi) works well, I like it! I picked it for its relatively minimalist appearance and thought it would work well with the understated cabinet faces and louder counter/backsplash, and of course to match the finish of the sink and appliances.

Wonderful settings, Lynn. I'm a country girl at heart too, and this is right up my alley! I'm glad your Village Cat allows you to do such neat things with your Village.

Actually all you got skills! I have SO ENJOYED the anticipation leading up to Christmas and all of your wonderful trees, tablescapes, outdoor lights, villages -- just EVERYTHING! Thanks for sharing!

Yep... add me to the country girl list. I see several pieces I love, the split rail fence and the little bridge. And your houses have soo much detail. Really like the green house! I also see you used some streets...
My houses are the really small ones because of space...but I may just have to rethink ..... and doo alot of yard sales this summer.

Beautiful! I love looking at villages that people create because you always notice something different no matter how many times you have looked at them. I see the cat enjoys it to. Well I guess that is better than being in the tree.
