I think the white tile is the problem. Are you sure you want stark white and not a softer pale limestone, or stone look. That's much easier to get a softer transitional look with. Gives a more spa like look too. White tile can be too stark. The green and blue glass is gorgeous with the light faux or natural stone looks. Use carrera instead of pure white for a more traditional look. You can soften the modern with more traditional fixtures.

What style is the rest of your house?

I'm a white tile fan as I have no natural light in my narrow bathroom. I'm mixing Crossville Color Blox Too (powered sugar & satin sheets - check out their inspiration gallery) and adding aqua & green glass (Vihara by Sonoma in Wabi color.) I plan to add traditional chrome fixtures with a white painted or cherry stained vanity. I'll be curious what you will decide!

Here is one inspiration photo; the white & glass would look just as good with a traditional faucet. Think of your favorite traditional item, but update it with a modern finish or shape. Like modern glass tiles in a traditional subway or running bond pattern. The walls could be simple white tiles with the sink/vanity being the focal point.

Thanks for the suggestions. My angst is really over the faucet styles going with the vanity I have chosen. The vanity is very straight lined yet the style of faucets we lean toward are more traditional. I will look into the tiles you suggested.

My house is under full renovation right now, but my kitchen is going to be transitional. Wood cabs with stainless appliances, my LR is very traditional, not sure what I am doing with family room.

I love white with aqua tile. In fact, I did this on my kitchen backsplash. It's a beautiful, fresh, clean look - not stark at all.

It sounds like you are right on track but just stalling a bit with the final details. Cherry is GORGEOUS with blues and aquas. Can you post a picture of the vanity? What is your faucet budget? There are a lot of clean lined yet still traditional leaning faucets out there in various price ranges. Also maybe post some faucets you like and we can help you find slightly more modern versions of them.

Don't panic, sounds like you are doing great! No need to abandon everything you've done and start over!
