Here is the downstairs gameroom

From the dining room

Poker Table centerpiece - put together from leftovers... wonder how long that will actually remain in place :)

Santa Splurge from Sam's this year....I think at 5', he was worth $90..... Sam's is the only place I will actually pay full price for something, especially if I really like it, don't know how many times, I've passed on things, then just felt absolutely sick because I missed out..... but I have gotten some great sale buys there as well!

First attempt at this little vignette..... just not working! I'm thinking that the greenery is too realistic and just not working with the whimsical Santas and mercury glass trees..... Guess I'll see what I can find after Christmas to try and get this one to come together. Anyone with any ideas, criticisms, suggestions on this? Please don't hold back!

Less greenery, but just still not working for me.... Perfect example of my first attempt at things like this....always seems to take a least a couple of years to get it to come together.

I just love that tree! I definately am not the one to ask,
but what if you put something under the decorations. Like snow or pretty piece of cloth.

I love having a dedicated INformal dining room! Yes, it's 'The Dining Room,' but it's not formal. Long farm table, comfortable chairs, warm lighting, flooring and surfaces that won't get damaged by kids or spills. A really warm and welcoming place to eat meals as a family or with friends. The 'breakfast nook' has just never been my favorite. Even when the space is nice, the furniture is rarely of a caliber that brings joy to the users... I'd replace that with two comfortable wingback chairs and a tall side table -- the kind of place you could have a cup of coffee and read the paper, or sit with a glass of wine while your spouse makes dinner or cleans the kitchen. The other great use for a 'breakfast nook' IMO is as a kids' homework area or auxiliary baking table. Another great use for an unused dining room is (if you can close it off) as a TV room. Get the TV out of your family room and reclaim that space as a family gathering area without the constant racket of a TV.

Not sure you would be open to it, but carpet, rather than wood, will help absorb some of the noise from the area. I would try to incorporate your husband's sports decor. It will mean a lot to him, and your son may enjoy it, too. The space can remain a "cave" yet, as it's not very visible from your main living area. How old is your son? I'd get him involved in choosing the decor. It will make a difference in how he "owns" the room and takes care of it.

Try to think of things that relate to your family and that have meaning. If you are travelers, large framed maps of places you have visited. If you love to watch movies, framed movie posters of your favorites. If you love fishing or sailing, nautical charts of your favorite spots. If your family is into sports, hang a few lacrosse sticks or skis on the wall. Involve your daughters and ask what they would like to see.

Alex, Love your game room decorations. That new Santa is fantastic. I like your ornament candle holders also. I agree with bright...I think some snow or cloth under your vignette might help.

OA, no didn't make the ornament candle holders....those actually were from my Mom probably 12-13 years ago, and they still have the $2.99 stickers from Garden Ridge on the bottom, which means she got them for about $.75 each! LOL .... there's where I get it! They have never really had a home and these leftovers just seemed to fit.

Bright, I'll have to try that.... I know that the cabinet it is sitting on is pretty ugly. When purchased, it was slated to be refinished which obviously has not happened, one day. Or on second thought, kids are getting close to heading off to college and those pieces can head off with the kids and I can replace with something really special for me!

Yep, I was thinking snow blanket, kind of bunched and not just flat, under that vignette too.

Your centerpiece is GORGEOUS! And that big Santa is so perfect for that room and tree. You HAD to bring him home!!
