try_hard, I believe you - like I said, my cooktop flame would blow out and have to reignite when I opened drawers in the cabinet it was housed in. & this wasn't some two-bit cooktop - it was a Wolf. The service tech found that the supply pressure to the cooktop was far far below its spec so we had to have the gas company out. It is better now but not perfect partly because the gas company was loathe to raise the supply pressure any. My point is that something is wrong somewhere and my suspicion is that it is likely in both your brother's oven AND the cooktop. Just as an experiment, I replicated an experiment yesterday to test the Bosch exhaust. I lit a candle and held it in front of the operating oven. At about 1 foot away from the oven or less, the exhaust at one point blew the candle out. At 2 feet back from the oven face, no matter where I held the candle, the flame just flickered - madly, but it flickered. The flickering was about as much as induced by your breath if you (I) held the candle about 6 or 8 below you (me). At 3' and more back, the flickering was getting progressively less as I moved back. This was a candle burning a single wick, not a flammable pressurized gas. I'll try to take pictures for you - all batteries needed charging yesterday when I was composing my shots for you. Oh & btw, the cooktop works just fine at 5 feet across from the oven face.

I am also trying to decide between these two brands but have a few others in the running as well. I was fondling the knobs on them yesterday at TGI and noted these things for you to consider. HTH. Both have ball bearing slide out racks. Bosch has 1, Electrolux has 2. Both offer extra racks as an accessory purchase. Electrolux oven light has "fade" feature similar to dome lights on many new car interiors. The cobalt blue interior is nice, reminds me of enameled camp cookware. It also has hidden controls (they are calling it Wave Touch) which don't appear until you press something. Some people might like the clean look of this but I think it would bug me, at least until I got to know where every button is located on the thing. Bosch features a "fast preheat" button. This might be good as I hear many ovens with hidden elements take way longer to heat up. (I don't know how much faster it actually preheats compared to other ovens; any users got feedback on this?) It also has amber LCD touch controls and features a vent on the bottom (won't be blowing in the user's face). The ball bearing rack seems more cautious about speed of sliding than the Electrolux, but is equally responsive.

Concerns are performance, frequency of repairs (hopefully low to none), and ease and cost of getting repairs. This final concern is one that leads my husband to think the GE might be a better choice. I quickly regretted the purchase of a GE oven. (Long story, short: Inconsistent and spotty temps, not holding heat, regaining heat by going into preheat mode and burning the tops of things... It was 'working properly as engineered.' They took my oven back but another avid baker here on the forum experiencing the same issues got no help or refund from GE, even though we were concurrently communicating with the same person.) Just after I bought it, I spoke to my favorite appliance tech (not good timing on my part) and he said they had trouble getting GE to send parts in a timely manner and that they were expensive compared to others. --Just trying to say that GE may be the opposite of what your husband hopes. Elux gets such overwhelming kudos on the appliance forum from members whose opinion I trust, that of your choices, that's where I'd lean. But I've also seen mostly favorable reports from Bosch owners on the current Bosch ovens.

This has happened twice now. The first time I almost thought I'd imagined it. This is a Bosch 800 series double wall oven, about a year old. I often use the top one to cook and the bottom to hold food/heat plates for serving, on WARM. Twice now I've had something in the top, turned the bottom one on well after the first was cooking, and much later opened the top only to find that it was at 170 (the WARM temp), despite reading the higher temp! Tonight I took pictures of the display, showing both ovens, and a thermometer in the top oven, then turned the top off and back on and it's very clear that it's barely started to preheat. I'll call Bosch, of course, but am wondering if anyone else has seen this. I'm not looking forward to convincing them that I'm not crazy...
