I am not familiar with this router at all, but it should have ethernet port(s) where you can connect this desktop with an ethernet cable. You may or may not have wireless capability with this computer (probably not). If you do, it should be listed in the specs that you received with it. I have an older HP desktop which I connect with an ethernet cable to my router, and then my HP laptop which is downstairs connects wirelessly. You should be able to do the same, I would think. The ethernet connection looks like a regular phone jack except that it is wider, and there should be one on the back of your tower. Connect one end of the cable to your computer and the other end goes into the ethernet connector on your router which should be labeled LAN.

if the pc has wireless capability built in then all you would need to do is disconnect it from the router by the wire and see if it finds the wireless connection if it has everything it needs (and is enabled) then you should see in the bottom right by the clock where it is trying to connect just like you would on a laptop, you would need to enter your network passphrase into the box that pops up to allow you to connect to your network.

I just looked up the specs listed for your p6310 and the networking options for it are as listed

Premium Wireless-N LAN card
Wireless-N LAN card
Premium Wireless-N LAN card and Bluetooth(R )

unless you chose the first one that says no wireless then you should have that capability on the pc.

I would run a belarc and get all the info specific to your pc you can always print it out and keep it because that info is often needed and having it on hand can come in very handy. That way you know exactly what is in that pc.

Grandms, I knew that I wasn't explaining right! I have connected the new HP in just the way that you described. What I want to do is connect the IBM Netvista that way and allow the new HP to connect wirelessly. I figured with it being a new model that it would have the capabilites. I will check with HP support, in the meantime maybe someone will be able to tell me how to do it. Thanks anyway!

Thanks Raven. I will do the Belarc thing. I just tried to contact HP using their chat support. I wish someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong! I get the little window for the chat....get a note that the agent will be with me shortly, then the agent comes on, types me a note. I have the cursor indicator blinking in the message box but it won't accept my typing! The same thing happened when I tried to contact them about the Touchsmart. I e-mailed HP and they said that there is nothing wrong with their chat support! GRRRRRR. I'll get back with

you might make sure you have pop ups allowed on the chat site it could make a difference, if you have adblock plus with firefox try clicking on the blue arrow by the red ABP stop sign in the top right and choose to disable for that page in case it is blocking something.

even though it shows the cursor blinking there are you going ahead and clicking that space with your mouse before you try to start the typing?
have you tried to copy and paste something directly into the reply box rather that typing it in? I would try with the control c for copy and the control V for paste. Type it out in a word doc or even an email body then do the copy and paste, trying various options might give you some clues what is happening.

Hey Raven...I did the Belarc thing. I don't see anything like what you said my options are. Under "Network Drives" it says "none detected". Is that where it should be?
Also, I haven't gone back to the HP chat thing. I did turn my pop up blocker off. I did try clicking on the cursor before I typed. When I had this problem before, I tried several times to do the chat. I noticed the last time that before the agent actually comes on, that I could type in the box. It actually changed colors once the agent logged on and then I couldn't type. Thanks anyway about that. I will bug HP about it until I get their attention. Hope you can tell me what I need to know about going wireless.

Sorry I misunderstood you. Still, to me it seems that since the desktop is not portable, wireless is much less important for it than for a laptop. I like to be able to move around with my laptop, hence I connect it wirelessly.

I'm not Raven, but Network Drives are not the same as Network Connections. If you right click on 'My Network Places' and left click on properties, you should see all of your available connections. Right click on the wireless adapter and left click on View Available Wireless Networks...find your Trendnet and click Connect.
