New Home - Kitchen Appliance Brands Help
Comments (2)I was recently looking at all those brands for my new home. I ended up going with a Viking D3 range, fridge and dishwasher. Partially for the rebates, partially for the matching and most of all because I loved the range. Great features and it is gorgeous. Beyond that the Viking D3 has a better warranty than the rest and I negotiated an extension to 5 years from the dealer for $175 for all 3 appliances. Also free delivery and install. The fridge is the same same as the jenn air and kitchenaid. Just different handles. The only iffy thing is the dishwasher. I am sure I could do better by buying a Bosch or Miele but with the 5 year warranty I think I am taking a safe risk on the Viking. Still need a range hood but I dont think I will go with Viking on that....See MoreBrand New Kitchen (all star appliances)
Comments (9)You've mentioned alot of appliances that you want to get and what are the "best" ones. You'll find differing opinions on that on the appliance forum. However, you are also asking about weather or not you should get some much less used appliances like a deep fryer, warming drawer, and meat slicer: the question is, Do you fry alot? Would you love to slice meat alot? Do you tend to prepare meals ahead of time before a party and would need a warming drawer? YOU need to answer these questions in order to determine weather you want to build in these less used appliance. For me, I wouldn't use any of them enough to warrant them being "built in". Are you just looking to just put in the most/best appliances in the kitchen just for resale value or "star power", or is it really something you use a lot or would use if you had it (like a Smoker, meat slicer). Just some things to think about. There is a thread on toaster ovens... Comments (4)I also second looking at the Lumen model. I was going to get the Dimension but when I was ready to place the order, the Lumen was just released and I have no regrets with spending the extra $200 for that and I believe there was something else that was extra other than the led lights but I can't recall. I have the Best iQ blower and it was not as quiet as I thought it would be. On low to medium speed it's not bad but on high speed is definitely not quiet. i would think external blower will be quieter but my house config doesn't allow that. I never had french door fridge until this remodel and I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Do I hate it? Not really but if I were to choose again, I would probably pick a bottom freezer with just one door for the fridge. I have a Miele 30" oven and speed oven. I love both performance wise but my speed oven acts a little weird altho not affecting performance. Service Tech didn't see any error codes so they can't fix what they don't know. The issue is sometimes the display would freeze during time countdown when I use it as microwave, but it will catch up about 15 seconds later, only display freeze, the oven was working. Another issue once in a while the oven will have the "turning on music/tone" when no one is nearby the oven. When I check, the oven was still off, so it seems like just the "music" went on, not the oven....See MoreBuilding new home, need advice on mid-range appliances
Comments (24)Helen "As for dripping on toes, again I guess that's a personal thing, but I don't know what would be dripping especially since I would be able to better ensure that all items were level " It's a safety thing. I am not talking about a little drip but an accidental sloshing of a water bath, roasting pan with fat or unexpected bubbling of sphagetti sauce out of a pan onto your foot, ankle or leg. It can run in your shoe. This is also why I mentioned about the rolling racks here. They are a relatively new thing and some come out much more quickly and you can slosh liquids right out of the pan and burn yourself. I know people who have had bakeware shatter when taking it out of the oven because you exceed the thermal tolerances of the dish taking it out of the oven. You might have an unexpected child or animal come out of nowhere. You can teach and warn them to stay away from the stove and no matter how carefully you watch them, accidents happen. In my line of work I have seen people wind up with skin grafts with kitchen spills and resulting burns so I am more aware of these things than most people. No one intends for these things to happen and being a kitchen, you can't eliminate all risks but it is a good thing to be aware of them. I know you said you can only access all the wall ovens from the side so while a consideration for you, I have no trouble at 5'3", standing in front, as my oven door (Electrolux) is only about 20" tall (Bosch is 22 3/8) and I can reach the racks with my back straight and my arms bent, so not everyone loses "all ergonomic advantage" by choosing a pull down door and the protection of the door providing a barrier may be important. The great thing about this forum is that there are often many sides to a coin. You consider pull down oven door a hinderance while I consider it a benefit. Some people are strictly concerned with the design for its aesthetic value so make their choice based on that. Each person has to balance the benefits and risks of each configuration for themselves and their situation and the more information you can gather, the better the decision....See More- 10 years ago
