Advice on Appliances for New Home
Comments (17)@deeageaux - Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, BS & CC are out of budget unless I can reallocate. BS & CC are $3k & $2.8k respectively (BS had a recent $ increase). Also does the off center heat make that much difference on a cast iron or all-clad. They are suppose to spread heat evenly over the entire area. No? Otherwise, which is the better option? KA or Dacor? I live in the placer county and I believe we have "soft" water here. No hard water stains on any our faucets so a base Miele should work. One turn off on Miele is that they are now handling the delivery & install under their "concierge" program (so more $$). With the KA ovens, what if you don't use the self-clean mode? Will that alleviate the reliability problems since the problems stem from self-cleaning. I agree with the looks on the Elux. @dodge59 - I like your idea of the single + speed. Did you get the Elux Icon? I couldn't find a speed oven in the base Elux line. Glad to hear about your experiences on reliability. @Caddidaddy55 - BS is now $3k. Called a dealer yesterday & they said that they recently raised their prices and that there is no discounting from MSRP. Dealers risk losing their accounts if they do. Same for CC. @JPRain - Appreciate your thoughts on holding out. But as I mentioned previously, we're not going to wait. We are operating within the limitations of the house, our cooking needs and financial investment (ROI). Also, we have a 3yr old. Remodeling combined with living in a new house and with a young child would just too disruptive. Finally, would love to hear from others on their experiences on reliability on the brands and items on my list. Thanks everyone! Great forum!...See MoreWindows for New Mid Range Custom Home
Comments (7)Home is in the St Louis MO area. I believe Okna and Sunrise are not available, but would love to know which windows would have a wood like appearance. When you say wood like, we do want white interiors even if they are wood. Just want to clarify if you mean the unit itself looks more like the stule of a wood window or were referring to faux wood vinyl interiors,...See MoreAdvice on appliances for our new home
Comments (29)Went oven shopping over the weekend! Looked at Ganggue, Thermador, Bosch, GE Monogram, Wolfe again Eliminated Ganggue because it was not intuitive to use and SUPER expensive for a second home. Thermador - had no opinion one way or another (tired to research that now!) Bosch 500,800, Benchmark were VERY affordable comparatively - even without the $1000 promotion from Wolfe you come away with about $2k savings. The tubular subzero handles and the Bosch handles do not match at all and they will be side by side so...... saw the GE Monogram whose handles match the subzero refrigerator handles. Of Course I revisited Wolfe E series ovens and liked them again!! Arrgh!!! Found out about the 6 year warranty from Subzero/Wolf - It comes with a standard 2 year and then you can get a 3 year more from Subzero and then if you get it installed by a certified installer then you get one more year - but then you can't get a $1000 off for the package promotion. So here are my options: 1. Bosch - for the price and good reviews on Houzz as far as their chipping - only one complained and they got the replacement right away. Just have to read up and decide on the 500,800, Benchmark. 2. Wolfe E with 6 year warranty 3. GE Monogram - although not good for gourmet cooks (which I'm not so it's ok). This option is in contention only because the handle match the Subzero refrigerator right next to it!! Or just get Bosch and maybe panel the subzero refrigerator so you can get whatever handle you want - Wasn't thinking of paneling until now because we like the stainless steel look. It breaks up the kitchen some. Will 42" French door Subzero refrigerator right next to a Bosch double oven look really bad? (appliance guy thinks I won't be happy with the mismatch!)...See MoreMid-range appliance package brands--need recs
Comments (3)Hi, I was surprised too! Thermador came out with a new line of appliances in May and we found one of their “old” 36” range still in box, never opened on a blowout sale... $6,200 range we picked up for $1,700! So we have a piecemeal kitchen—Thermador fridge/freezer (also on blowout sale), Bosch dw, Sharp microwave. We bought from Best Buy and they offered many incentives. Good luck to your son!...See Morecac546
