I know this is a long time coming. But I remembered this question when I ran across the following information recently. If you have XP Home, Go to your control panel, Double Click the Scanners and Cameras folder to open Connect your camera and turn it on then Right-click on the Camera Icon Left Click on Properties Left Click on the "Events" Tab in the Camera Pop-Up Window There you can either set a program such as "Microsoft Scanners and Camera Wizard" or put a check in "Prompt for which program to run". Which will open that options menu you speak of. There are two other choices there that are pretty well self explanatory. Make sure you click on "Apply" and "OK" If you Use Kodak Easy Share programs below is some other information about seeing your camera in My Computer. For a Windows XP operating system, it is not possible to see the camera as a drive letter when EasyShare software is installed. You can mount the camera as a drive using the Windows imaging acquisition (WIA) driver. To change from the Kodak driver to the WIA driver, do the following: Connect and turn on the camera. In the Transfer window, click Cancel. On the desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, and then select Properties. Select the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. Click the + sign in front of Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then select the Kodak camera. Select the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver. Select Install from a list or specific location, and then click Next. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next. Select Digital Still Camera, and then click Next. I personally would say NO. Not knowing this person well is grounds enough to simply say no. She does not know what he may be doing and it seems he is not very forthcoming with info to her as to why and what he expects to accomplish. She should just step away with out full disclosure and even with it I just would not do it. If it is connected to her apt. and her internet she will be the one it will show as the owner and heaven forbid he is involved in something like child porn or other illegal activities she would be involved big time. I see no positives in this for her in any way so why chance it.

Posie I don't think you would need a new camera unless you want access to all of the software that came with your old camera. I have a Canon Powershot A520 that the included software is not compatible with my Vista Home Premium. Though I did email Canon and they sent me instructions to update the ExBrowser I haven't done so. There hasn't been a need to. I simply plugged the camera into the Vista computer with the USB cable and let it search for the driver. Once it did it showed up as another drive in your USB drives and I downloaded the pictures from there. Just to be safe, once the pictures are downloaded I click on the Safely Remove Hardware Icon and I'm good to go. Not sure if I have to but I do. Vista does a pretty nifty job of handling the images with the Windows Photo Gallery but I also have Irfanview loaded on here and that is all of the editing software I would need. It is really a very easy process. I also have a 15-1 card reader that came with the computer and also have the card readers on the all in one printer but again haven't had the need to use them. Bob

IEEE 1394 is more commonly known as Firewire and is mostly used to connect to peripherals such as digital cameras, camcorders and some external hard drives. It can also be used to network two Firewire-equipped systems together, achieving 12.5 to 50MBps transfer speeds. Firewire networking use is limited because of its 15ft cable length limitation.
