What site is IE blocking can you provide a link?

What error are you getting?

Many times if you hold down ctrl (control) key while clicking download it will regardless of blockers

I got a pop-up from AVG that theyn would no longer provide updates to 7.5. If I click on this to upgrade to 8.5 free, it downloads to 15% and then a window pops up saying
"Internet Explorer cannot download...ree_stf_en_85_283a145exe from download.avgfree.com"
The connection with the server has been reset.
If I try to download from 'Hippo", it will block the site immediately.

So you have AVG 7.5 installed? If so I would uninstall it through the add/remove programs list.

Then do this:

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your Desktop.

Note: Vista users must use Run As Administrator
 Under Main: Select Files to Delete choose: Select All.
 Click the Empty Selectedbutton.
 If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
 Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords click No at the prompt.
 If you use Opera browserclick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
 Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords click at the prompt.
 Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Then install AVG from the link below.

and get firefox browser and try using it to do your download

I like the ideas here, but let's make sure they are in the proper order.

If you do not have a second browser option please get one; or more if you wish more than one. Though I have personal preferences it is not my position to sway you. Once the addition(s) are installed and working to you satisfaction use one to download the current version of AVG.

Following the successful download delete the prior AVG version using whatever choice you determine is best for you. Please look at their uninstall tool and REVO before making a decision.

Finally, install the new AVG and update.

By doing operations in this order you maintain protection for as long as possible, succeed in removing the prior version and have the ability to install the current version with the least amount of potential conflict.

i am unable to install the new update as well. It goes most of the way through and then tells me it can't find the file or something on that order. It is also telling me it will no longer update my 7.5 version.Will have to try the suggestions.. I am not really interested in having a second browser however.. why does everything always have to be so complicated? Why doesn't it just download like it should?

AVG 7.5 is finished. There are no more updates and you need to get the latest version. Use the link below and be sure to keep selecting the free version. Then update the definitions as soon as it is installed.

I tried the one that suggested holding the control key while clicking on 'download' and it worked!!! The new version downloaded without any problems....however, when I ran the file it needed me to uninstall 7.5.
Scan ran this morning for 1 hour(way longer than 7.5) and seems to be okay now. Thanks again

polarprincess you may not be interested in having another browser but what happens if your one and only browser decides to take a dump? and you had not bothered to get a second browser? you now have no way to access the internet because your one browser is not functioning, it is a security and back up precaution to have at least 2 browsers. Many of the latest malware are known to disable IE for the very reason they hope you have no others and then can not get help. So that is why we urge having 2.

RC is correct in regards to why you should have at least a second browser. If you don't want a second installed download one and store it externally on a media of your choice. If in deed your solo browser fails you would have a backup available to install. Better to be safe than sorry.

Note: Multiple installed browsers do not conflict. One will more than likely have to be deemed the default. I currently have three with absolutely no concerns.

I keep a portable browser and applications for backups on a flash drive, and also installed on a separate hard drive partition,,, for emergencies.
Discovered it can be a lifesaver to have instant messaging on a portable too.

I am like DA, I have 3 browsers , IE which I use rarely, Firefox, and my default browser Sea Monkey.

IE8 final is out now, few days ago.
Read the b4 install guide 1st & make sure you pick your version.
