Why do you not want IE9? As far as IE it is the best and most secure release available. Things are a bit different admittedly. However, anytime an application has a major revamping there is change. If not, why would there be an upgrade?

And you certain don't have to use IE9 when so many other good browsers are available. But best to have it for security's sake.

I have IE9 on a couple of my PC's and I don't like it. I keep preventing it from downloading on my laptop when I see that is wanting to do so. I have always used IE. How does one use a different browser? My main objection to the new 9 is that I always have to go back to my home page to do a search for anything.

You can type your search in ie9 address bar.
If only a single word search, click the little icon that looks like a magnifying glass that is near the end of the www.address imput box area.

If that magnifying glass is not present then... Click the gear on top right,,, then Internet Options...

Then on the General tab page it probably opens to... on the Change search defaults button, click settings...
at the bottom of that settings window is a check box to enable search in the address bar.

Whew.. lot easier to do that write.

I thought I was the last hold out for IE instead of Firefox. I used FF once and went back to IE, then tried it again and had a good laugh at myself. It is wonderful, no more ads/popups, wonderful addons like Taco, no squint and themes. Try it you won't be sorry. If you have any problems you will get the help you need here.

casi you should always have at least one extra browser on any pc, that way if IE should crash or not work you would be able to use the other one to get online and get help.

You can have as many browsers as you want it is just one more program you add to your pc. Firefox is what I use as do many others but Chrome and Opera are popular.

I do not use IE at all except when I have to use it for MS updates.

To use another browser on your pc you just download it, let it install, then when you want to go online you just click on the icon for that browser instead of the one for IE it is that simple. Plus firefox and most others will ask you during install if you want to import your settings and bookmarks from IE you say yes and your new browser will have everything IE had all set up for you.

Whether anyone uses IE or not you should always update to the latest version for your version of windows for security reasons. However if you have XP you would not be able to use IE9 it is for Vista and above, and should not be offered in updates for those with XP

I don't know of any browser which cannot be set as the default browser. A user can select their choice as default with any other browsers remaining on-demand. You can even open more than one without conflict.

I currently have IE9, Opera 11, SlimBrowser along with Firefox 6.0.2 as the default.

Note: Some browsers will have to be configured through Preferences/Options not to always check to see if that browser is the default. This avoids a reoccurring popup window.

You shouldn't block the IE update even if you don't like it because eventually that may cause a big problem with other updates.

I blocked IE7, then IE8, among other things, from XP and wound up putting in several hours fixing things up (don't ask) to install SP3. Well, had to download and intall and run programs to completely rebuild the registry..........that was the easy part.

I don't no longer block nothing.

To search, can't you on any page just type the keywords into the Addressbar and hit enter? Works on my IE9 all the time.
