What otr microwave with Electrolux duel fuel?
Comments (9)I just purchased an Electrolux OTC microwave #EI30MH55GSA, the same one Stacy referred to as a lemon on July 9. I wish I had seen your posting because although mine is working fine the recirculating fan is not doing its job. I am getting excess moisture on the microwave when I use the front burners, and on the backsplash when I use the back ones. I have the induction dual fuel electrolux range and love it. I have been trying to find out if anyone has an OTC with a more powerful non vented (recirculating) fan. I might be able to return this one (to the store I bought it from)and buy a better one but I am not sure if any recirculating OTC microwave will work efficiently. I like the look and its performance otherwise. Stacy, the Electrolux customer service person told me they would replace mine after 3 functional failures and if deemed unrepairable. Is there anyway for this comment to be emailed to Stacy? Marc, you have probably already purchased your micro, but I have gotten used to the control panel on mine. At first I had to read the manual to defrost soup, etc. Now that the learning curve is over I'm ok with it!...See MoreReplacing OTR microwave with range hood?
Comments (13)No personal experience, sorry. All I can do is speak generally from the viewpoint of someone who uses the range (and hood) quite a bit. My wife and I have an Italian "designer" hood. It looks pretty spiffy, but if I had it all to do over again, I would have gone less for the looks and more for the effectiveness and ease of cleaning. I would have gone for a more restaurant style underside with baffles, a more pronounced "hood," etc. I would not even consider a hood such as the one you named. Nor would I entertain the purchase of a hood with glass or any exposed surfaces on the underside. Everything under there gets greasy quick and I don't want to worry about trying to shine stainless steel in that area. I want to use a heavy grease cutter in there, put as much of the undersides in the dishwasher as I can, put it all back together and get back to cooking. Here is a link that might be useful: range hoods...See MoreWhat is the clearance between your OTR Microwave and Gas Range
Comments (8)I have just shy of 18" from the grate top to the bottom of the MW. We find that to be a good height. My last set-up had less clearance, maybe 16" - microwaves hadn't been invented when the kitchen was built, so this was a retrofit. That height was great for putting stuff in and out of the MW, but crowded a large pot on a back burner. My mom had one that was higher, maybe 20" and it was ridiculous. I was always afraid she was going to dump her oatmeal on her head. Mom was about 5'1 or 2" at the time. I was not sorry when she fried that MW with a foil container and we replaced it with an on-counter model. I think the height you have will be fine, but I have a question. Is there any way you can put your MW somewhere else? Ours is there because our kitchen just doesn't have any other possibilities that make sense, but I'd much rather have a real vent hood and MW elesewhere....See MoreAdvantiums & Microwave Convections - OTR
Comments (11)I wish I could do a good vent and the micro some place else but due to space constraints it's not possible. My old GE Spacemaker was loud too. I hate that! It's a ridiculous amount of noise these things make. It didn't seem to do a great job either but the vent hookup behind the wall was faulty horrible as we have found out. My folks have a GE and their house smells when cooking and it's loud as the dickens too. Both units have vent to the outside. Theirs even runs directly out the back through the wall, no run. I would probably venture into speed cook but plan to mostly use it for convection only mode. The baking and roasting features interest me the most. If the quality of that isn't so great, I probably wouldn't use it much so want to steer from claims that don't really deliver. I probably will continue to do microwaving on quick frozen meals. A mix of scratch and frozen foods is what I'm planning for. Economical use of a smaller oven than that on the range. I'm not sure what I'm paying for with the extra $200+. The other unit I'm looking at is a Whirlpool true convection 1.8 which claims to roast and bake. It has a 4 speed fan. The steaming feature is good for me too. The Advantium says: Speedcook; Microwave Convection Bake Broil Warm Proof Toast I'd expect steams too although it isn't mentioned. Sounds all around functional. But could I expect the broil/toast features from any convection microwave anyway? (I don't trust sales people to give me knowledgeable or even honest answers on these things). http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/GMH6185XVQ.html So, does the Advantium cooking quality taste better for some reason? Or convection out of one or the other runs about the same? Both will brown nicely. I love browned and crispy foods!...See Morejennifer2413
