OTR Microwave - with Convection or not, or Advantium?
Comments (3)I have the Advantium 120 OTR. It has two trays - the normal glass one for MW, and a black metal one for speedcooking and baking. I don't find the tray storage to be an issue at all. I keep the tray with my baking dishes - when I need the tray, I also need a baking dish. 90% of the time, the glass tray is in the Advantium in my house. I love the option of a second oven for holidays or parties, etc. On Thanksgiving, I hosted 25 people. Cooked a big ol' turkey in the regular oven and a 7 pound turkey breast in the Advantium. Used the Advantium to brown rolls while I sliced the meat. It was wonderful and very convenient. (The whole turkey was baked at a different temp than the breast, and really took up the whole oven since it was so huge.) If you use the glass tray to bake or speedcook, no one will die. You just won't get as good results. I guess you could potentially crack the glass tray too, and have to replace it. Any "regular" glass MW tray will do, so it's not like they'd have to find some weird specialty part. The Advantium does an excellent job with roasting chicken and other poultry. The meat is moist, skin is crisp, and since you don't have to preheat and you have the microwaves, it takes less time. If there are careless people in the house, keep the glass tray in the Advantium unless a responsible cook is actually baking at that moment. The careless (lazy!) folks can use the glass tray and push the 30-second easy-on button to microwave whatever they want....See MoreBest OTR Microwave/Convection to fit in my space (with grani
Comments (1)Anyone?...See MoreDifference between advantium and convection microwave
Comments (25)Well, it was this, I was talking about: The biggest difference is the speed feature. That uses a combination of heated air convection, halogen, and microwaves to cook things fast, and still have them be "normally" cooked. That is, browned, heated from the outside, etc. To do toast, I do not use the Speed Function, instead I select the grill function, I wait for the speed oven to preheat, then pop the bread slices in, set for about 2 minutes, as I recall, flip the bread after about 1 min. It comes out pretty good, albeit not as fast as a regular toaster but we just don't eat enough toast to buy a regular toaster. One would think the Advantium could be used the same way for toast and perhaps even the Miele, just don't try to "Speed cook it" per say. Comments (0)I need help solving a temperature problem with our OTR Advantium, GE Cafe model CSA1201 (120 V). The oven is installed in our RV, where it replaced a Sharp convection/micro that worked great. The GE oven works fine on convection up to 375F. If I try to heat it to 400 or above, it will preheat to somewhere between 385 and 400, then the display will jump to the desired preheat temperature. A check with an IR thermometer shows it maxes out at 385. I have tried cancelling and re-preheating. Have tried long (1 hour preheats) with no improvement. It's frustrating since the oven gets used for artisan bread and pizza and I need the full 450F temperature. Does anyone have a link to a service manual/troubleshooting guide? I did contact GE about it, but their only response was to suggest a service call, which isn't going to happen for an RV (especially with our past GE service at home). Thanks, Michelle...See Moreairedale4mom
