I had GE OTR microwaves in my previous home. The first one had a recall on it and techs fixed it free, of course. Then we got rid of all the almond appliances a year ago and bought all GE since we turned the house into a rental. Never a problem with the GE OTRs in 11 years. We built a new house in the mountains of New Mexico and I outfitted the kitchen with mid-range appliances in 2010. By far my favorite is the GE Profile Advantium 120 microwave-oven combo. It's mounted at countertop height in the wall near my Maytag Gemini gas (LP) range. I was always short on ovens in every other home, not now! I have a small upper oven and a large convection oven in the range, plus the versatility of the Advantium that gives me microwave, convection oven, speedcook, and warming oven. For small items or toasting I use the countertop toaster oven. Caveat: when the Advantium was first pulled out of the box the lower right hinge didn't work correctly. I thought it would be a simple fix, so let the installers leave. Mistake! The guy the appliance store sent out the following week tried to fix the hinge without the right tool (specialized one he didn't have in his kit) and he scarred my cabinet AND the Advantium. Fortunately, I had the appliances department manager as my salesman, so the appliance store replaced the oven and we re-installed it ourselves (piece of cake, just plug it in, slide it in the wall, screw in a few screws to hold in place). Re-installing an OTR would be a different matter entirely. Anyway, I do recommend the Profile Advantium 120, and think an OTR unit would be a good choice for you. There is a learning curve and the instructions must be followed carefully regarding which trays to use for microwave (glass) vs. convection and speedcook (metal tray). What I definitely don't recommend is any gas range with a black porcelain top surface, it's impossible to keep clean looking. I'm happy with the performance and two ovens on my Maytag Gemini, there weren't many double-oven ranges on the market when I bought 20 months ago. I would look hard for a unit with a stainless top if I had it to do over.

Seems like the faucet is too high for the micro to be the level you want. Could you get a lower faucet and then move the whole cabinet lower, too? Or maybe just the shelf? OTR micros are more expensive than countertop ones, probably because of the fan. It doesn't seem necessary for you to spend that extra money just to get the lighting -- you could put some kind of light under the shelf for probably a lot less.

Jenny  hopefully some others will chime in  or you could ask Advantium specific questions which are bound to get answered. As for the turntable rack, I was referring to the Advantium OTR. So, it CAN be used in the 120 built-in but not the OTR? For sure it can be used in the 120 built-in. Convection is hot air circulating around and over the food to help cook it more evenly than a conventional oven. The hot air will definitely surround the food on two levels. IÂm sure you will love cooking with Convection. Convection alone is marginally faster than conventional  but the results are superior. The Profile allows for "Fast Bake" which combines the MW (cooks food from within - all nice and juicy) with the Convection hot air (cooks and browns nicely on the outside) for an increase in time up to 25% faster. IÂve never used a speed oven (Halogen lights) but I would think the lights would have to hit the food for it to brown so I canÂt see how a double rack would work in the OTR Advantium ovens. I will also tell you that there is a steep learning curve for speed cooking (Advantium). Very few cookbooks deal with this so it is a lot of time and error figuring out what works. This is not the case with Convection. Obviously, IÂm leaning toward the Profile  but IÂm just sharing my reasons why. I do most cooking from scratch, not much prepackaged/prepared items. I would think it would be useful for meatloafs, lasagna, chicken/meat, veggies, cookies, brownies, bread etc. Really, most anything you use your oven for, right? So, a second oven would be nice. You will love Convection for all of these purposes and yes  a second oven that can also double as a warming drawer would be very nice. :-) Does the Advantium have enough *space* for cooking items like this (assuming you might want to use a 9 x 13 pan? The Advantiums are smaller. I donÂt think you can get a 9 x 13 in the OTR Advantium  not 100% sure though. I think you can with the Velos  that thing is a monster! Speedbake would be a nice feature, but how is the Advantium Speedbake different from the Profile? Speedbake uses MicroWaves along with Halogen lights. The Profile can "fast bake" using MW and Convection. You can also use Convection alone in the Profile. I will probably use this more than Fast Bake or MW. But I can do all three in the Profile. :-) My last question (ha!) is, do you think the Advantium browns better than the Profile? Remember  Convection alone is just a better oven than Conventional Radiant heat. So better browning. Does Speed Bake using Halogen/MW lights brown better than Fast Bake using Convection/MW??? Good question! My guess would be "No". I hope others weigh in I really see no advantage to the OTR Advantium (the built-in 120 is a different story). The OTR's do not have Convection. This seriously limits your options if a second oven is what you want.

I assume that the MW is on a shelf that is the bottom of that cabinet, right? How about putting a fan blowing down and out from the back of the cabinet? I think if you look for a cooling fan in an electronics catalogue, you will find one you can install there. If you draw the air out from behind and below the MW, fresh, cooler air will be drawn in from the smaller spaces around the MW. This could work. They make laptop tables/trays with these fans.
