Mongo my house would give you a headache :oP I have the yellows and the silvers in the same room. I don't have any families of anything that are all the same family :) I do have similar finishes for similar items, and I did keep style flowing, (ie no victorian with modern etc) but I do have some mixed finishes as well as similars. For instance, in my kitchen, I have stainless and chrome for the faucets. The knobs are antique pewter and the stove knobs are chrome with a brass accent (Lacanche). Because I have the brass accent on the stove, I also carried it to the lighting which is aluminum and brass in color (yup yellow and silver). It's antique and the color mix flows well in the room. My powder room sink is not the same brand as the toilet, and the faucets are brass. I did go with brass in the lighting as well since there's not a silver accent to pull in like in the kitchen. My master is Oil Rubbed Bronze, but the knobs are antique gold (with a black antiquing rubbed over them) so I guess i have bronze and gold in there :) The shower is a different brand than the waterfall faucet for the tub and the faucets on the sinks are also a different brand. The toilet is toto and the tub amarich...the sinks...mexican copper. In the family bath the faucet/shower is chrome as well as the sink faucet (though I'm thinking of changing that to a fabulous turtle faucet I just saw in a design magazine). The knobs are antique pewter and the towel bars, etc are all brushed silver. So like items are like finishes if that makes sense? The systems are not necessarily the same (most from Pottery Barn, but some from other places). I see it as having like with like. Don't have a brown toilet with a white tub, etc. And honestly...any contractor who can't handle that isn't worth employing! I fired any plumber who whined about the unusual faucets, vessel sinks, etc. I don't want a putz trying to install a vessel sink of mine if such simple plumbing confuses them.

We have the RH Dillon towel bars and cabinet pulls as well as the Lugarno towel bars and cabinet pulls. All of these are sturdy and well made and beautiful as well. In addition we have the Dillon rectangular pivot mirrors and think they are of good quality also. The Dillon over mirror lights are another story---don't seem to be well made and are rather fragile. According to DH, however, this is not a RH problem but a problem for all types of lighting due to the made in China factor and since I'm not touching or adjusting the lights except to change bulbs from time to time this is not problematic either. We also have a Hutton vanity and mirror. Both are excellent for us as they are in a guest bath and don't get heavy daily use. The vanity is beautiful and was a great deal since we bought it on a very big clearance sale and added our own sink, faucets and granite top instead of using their package deal. The minor drawback of the vanity is that the drawer glides are not as smooth as they could be. Maybe I really notice this b/c the rest of the drawers in all our baths and kitchen are the Blum soft close. On the other hand DH does say he's going to get around to putting some WD 40 on them and I hope that will help. One additional point is that I was very pleased with RH customer service. We had run into a construction delay and could not install our Dillon mirrors when we had planned. I foolishly did not open the packages and inspect the mirrors immediately and was horrified when I did open them to find one mirror was completely shattered. Although we were beyond the return date specified on the RH website they nevertheless exchanged the mirror for me at no charge. Bottom line for us is that we feel everything we bought was a good value for us. HTH.

xamsx, which part of "you deserve what you got" did you not see? I fail to see where I asked for *any* advice on my Realtor. If and when I want that kind of advice (and I have read lots of past threads on this forum), I'll ask for it. In the meantime, perhaps we could stick with what I *did* ask for help on. Thanks, graywings. If they were just cheap and outdated, I might throw some towels on and call it good, but these are loose (I took two down today that were barely clinging to the wall), dented, and stained. Yuck. I'm really pleased with what I've done thus far. Just a few perk ups are making a huge difference in the feel of the house. There's some "heavy lifting" type clean up work that I'll find someone to do, since I don't have time, but otherwise I am an updating master! :D I'm doing the blinds (amazing difference), towel bars/tp holders, etc., lighting, switch plate covers (just new almond ones, I'd have to change out switches and outlets themselves to change to white), new medicine cabs (cracked, stained ones are so not enticing), front door handle (if it fits the existing door), shower curtains, knobs (dang, those are more work than I thought -- I did all of four today), and taking out the tchotchkes for sure. A few other things, can't remember them all now! Not going to add any WTs (valances, etc.), just taking down some bits of leftover hardware from previous curtains, patching and painting. A good clean up and it will show sooo much better. I don't think it will all be done but I'll take new pictures tomorrow when most of it is done.

I should have clarified. I'm not crazy about the Pinstripe, my husband wanted it. I don't like the nuts and bolts look/shape. It's very prevalent in the accessories, more so than in the faucet. I especially don't like the Octagon shape of the towel ring. I would splurge on the towel ring since it's closest to the faucet, but I just don't like it. I was trying to find an accessory style I could live with that didn't completely fight the Pinstripe. Maybe I should go with another Kohler model for all the accessories. The Kohler prices are all over the place though. The Pinstripe towel ring is about $180.00, The Margaux is about $90.00 and the Devonshire is about $20.00. Who knows if the chrome will look the same on the less expensive pieces.
