Hmmm. The last part of my reply didn't get posted. I might have deleted it or something. Anyhow, I also wrote that Jolly tiles can also refer to tiles with mitered edges. That allows two jollys to turn a corner. So the term can be used in different ways. I'm not enough of a tile guy to know if one description is more correct than the other.

Eric, that's great that your tiler was willing to take the time and care to rearrange tiles when necessary. I think my tiler did a great job of putting together the jigsaw puzzle that was my bathroom (a couple of outside corners, transitions from half-height to full-height, etc.), but he definitely didn't have the patience to pop off and replace individual tiles. As a result, I have a few places where the border isn't as "mixed" as I would like. I agree with you about porcelain vs. travertine. My field tile is porcelain, and I love not having to worry about it. I liked this travertine random brick though, and I decided I wasn't going to fret about care of a small amount of border tile. I like the way it feels when I run my fingers across it, too - very silky. ;-) If I had seen yours, though, I probably would have gone for it. Your bathroom's going to be beautiful!

Blondelle, it's the edge meeting at right angles. I've got a few of those - a couple are on half-tiled walls, so I've got to go around the corner *and* finish off nicely on the top edge (and top corner). Then there are a couple of corners that also transition from half-height to full-height in the tub/shower. The "cuarto de cana" (quarter round) and "angulo cuarto de cana" (quarter round corner - can't do the tildes!) pieces, along with some bullnose, would solve the problem for me, but I'm not sure I can get those pieces for my preferred tile (and possibly not even for my less-preferred tile) in time for work to start on 9/29. Bill, I understand how to use bullnose to finish off one side of a corner edge and have the other side butt into it... but how do I finish off the top of the corner when it's a half-tiled wall? Do I just miter the bullnose strips along the top? Can I miter the (possibly glass) border tile beneath the bullnose, and then just use the vertical bullnose/butt technique down the rest of the side? (Hope that made sense... I'm just learning this stuff!)

Hi, tuesday_2008! To the left of the range, there are three actual doors on the bottom cabinet--we keep skillets, pans, and cutting boards in there. To the right of the range, we have a super susan with a fold out door. While the fold out door is a little clunky, you can't beat the lazy susan for storing small appliances. I would miss it if we didn't have one. I think the brush painted frames and spray painted doors blend well. Most of the cabinet box area is covered by the doors, and the primer was sandable so we were able to ensure a pretty smooth finish. We did tell ourselves we would leave the option open to brush paint the final coat on the cabinet doors if needed, but we didn't find it necessary. I've also heard of people quickly running a brush over the final sprayed coat to give it a lightly brushed look. They seem to be wearing equally well, thank goodness. I think as long as you have good surface prep, you'll be great. Hope this helps!
