New JerseyÂs 2010 Clean Energy Program promotes responsible recycling of refrigerators and freezers in NJ. Recycling your old refrigerator and/or freezer will protect our environment and save you up to $150 in energy costs per year by replacing them with newer, more efficient models. In collaboration with JACO Environmental, your old appliance will be picked up by truck for free and a $50 cash incentive will be issued to you within 90-120 days after pickup. There is a limit of 2 units per residential address.

The following requirements must be met:

You must be a NJ resident and customer of Atlantic City Electric, Jersey Central Power and Light, PSE&G or Rockland Electric Company. Customers of municipal electric utilities do not qualify.

The unit must be between 10-30 cu ft in size, in working condition, and you must own it. You must be home at time of pick-up. Certain restrictions may apply.

For further information and to schedule a free pick-up of your refrigerator or freezer for recycling, either call 1-877-270-3520 or schedule a pick-up online at Jaco Environmental.com.

It is interesting to note that 95% of the parts from these appliances can be recycled and made into other useful products such as metals, glass, plastics and oil.
