To change your default e-mail program, follow these steps:
This is from micrsoft:

1. Start Internet Explorer, and then click Preferences on the Edit menu.
2. Click Protocol Helpers.
3. Click Mailto, click Change, and then click Change Helper.
4. Click the appropriate e-mail program, and then click Open.
5. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Jane, do you have gmail set up in Outlook Express?

I use IE 7, so I can provide instructions for that browser:
Click on Tools, then Internet Options
Click on the Programs tab
Next to email, select Outlook Express, click Apply and OK.

For Firefox:
Click Tools then Options
Go to the Applications Tab
find mailto and select GMail from the drop down list and click OK

Zep, I have IE7 and I can't find 'preferences' under Edit. I don't use IE at all so I don't know if it is necessary.

I'm looking at some things on Craigslist but when I click on the sellers link to send them an email, Outlook opens.

Whenever I am on a website where I click on their link to send them an email, my outlook express always opens with their addy after the To:
So what I do is: I highlight THEIR address, click copy, and paste it after To: in my separate g-mail web account to write to them from there.
I never use my OE to respond to any website when OE pops up.

OR------If you have like I do, (my g-mails accessed in my OE) while in Outlook express, I leave as is and just change the OE address of mine to my webmail address as if I am writing from g-mail.

I use Vista / Windows Mail now but did it the same in XP for three seperate email accounts.

I set in the mail programs configurations
Tools/Accounts .

My three accounts are listed,,, highlight the one you want as default,,, press the set as Default button.

I have XP and got it to work with Pams directions (thank you Pam). I don't have Windows Mail or Windows Live. Urlee, I love what you were showing. That would be neat to be able to write in one place and just change who sends it.

I was able to change FF to send with gmail, so that was great. Thank you all, and Mikie, don't disappear again...

I want to change my email service from Outlook to something else that doesn't require me to go through a user and password everytime mail comes in. I want something that will come directly to me as it does now in Outlook. I am having problems with my contacts in Outlook and want to change. I am on Google Chrome now instead of Internet exployer and I have Windows 7.
